4K video resolution betweeen 5D IV and 1dX II

Hey guys, thought I would start this topic since I know a lot of us are using these cameras for a combination of both photo and video. I am in the market for a new camera, hot on my mk3 for years, however I want to make sure I get the best video quality possible. Do you think there will be a noticeable difference in the 4K output of the 1dx ii over the 5d iv. other than the 60fps in 4K, do you see any other differences in the video between th two cameras?

thanks :)

The resolution is the same numerically. However, the 5D Mark IV sensor has more megapixel that 1DX Mark ii, and to match the video 4K resolution, the 5D Mark IV makes a crop of 1,74x. This makes all lenses "less wide".

If 5D Mark IV uses a smaller area of the sensor for video 4K, should have more noise at high ISO, compared to 1DX Mark ii.

Even though Canon's EF-S lenses won't physically fit, the 1.7x crop factor means you can use all sorts of nice third-party crop lenses with the 5D4 when shooting 4K :D
The annoying thing, is that all your lenses 24mm no longer wide angle.

Yeah, but a Sigma 8-16mm will cover the 4K part of the sensor and be wider than a 14mm lens (on FF).

I'm happy I got a refurb 8-15mm fisheye on the cheap. I think it will work well with 1.7x crop. I like it on APS-C so marginally tighter would still be okay.

But, will the Sigma lenses worth with the camera's internal lens corrections? That is the part that is going to suck.

Has Canon finally come up with the killer app to kill 3rd party lenses??

I think more like they found a good use for those without actually having to admit it.

So I'm guessing that the x 1.74 Canon 5D4 video crop basically eliminates the resizing down of the full frame image by just using 4096 x 2160 pixels from the centre. Hence the crop factor.

Would it be impossible to use the full frame coverage and resize down to 4k - or would the CF card and processor limit this.

It's a massive shame ... We all had high hopes for the 5D4 video and this makes it more difficult to work with.

In my opinion, Canon deliberately only installed a CF card in the 5D4 to cripple its video and to stop Magic Lantern from being able to 'pimp' it up - since they won't touch the 1D range.

All of a sudden the Sony A7Rii is looking more appealing ... In camera stabilization, 4k, great dynamic range, peaking and much lighter than 1Dx2.

I thought I would not live long enough to see the day when our friend Neuro would recommend third-party lenses ...
