5D 3 sales

I work for a midsized independent wholesale distributor in EU and am daily amazed by the numbers of 5D3 we are selling. The camera has been growing strong since january and especially in the last weeks we cannot cope with demand. WFT is going on...?!?

Canon shareholders are probably rubbing their hands together. They created a new segment out of nowhere (the 1dmkIV which had roughly the same price level was sold in units/months), made people digest the price premium, established a new camera base for the new high-quality high-prices lenses and started to cash in.

From a marketing perspective and despite all the whining on forums it was a clearly winning move.

For those who wonder the wholesale price in hk this week is 3350/3360USD for the kit 24105 and 2650/2670USD for the body.

I see very little whining on the forums against the 5d3; it's the very attitude from these forums that has lead to everyone thinking they need one. Also, if you're going to define a "winning move" as something that makes Canon more money, they do all kinds of crap that we disagree with that are winning moves. We think from the consumer perspective, not Canon's wealth.

I see very little whining on the forums against the 5d3;

Very little overall. Just a small but very persistent minority who post the same comments over and over, in every thread they can.

Spring is the big sales time for cameras. People buy them for upcoming weddings, vacations, graduations and more. So improved sales are not suprising.

With the EU economy fears, it is suprising that sales are booming, but maybe people have more willingness to spend than the news types think. I have a investment in a EU stock mutual fund, maybe it will take off

I got my 5D3's for 3000$ and 2499$. This was little over 6 months into the release and I'm glad I waited for a good deal. The 5D3 is nearly the perfect camera for me, and currently see possibly never upgrading.

I paid about $4450 for my 5D3 body, and it's awesome. It needs a couple of minor improvements but nothing that firmware couldn't fix.

I love my 5D3. I also still love my 5D2.
