5DIII with 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L

Any body had problems with this combination? I have had terrible trouble getting the lens to focus, bifs were virtually impossible. Even sometimes had trouble with static subjects. Also, the lens is very soft at 400mm/f5.6.

No problem for me. Did you check the lens on another body or do AFMA?

Should have checked out the lens before spending nine weeks in Scotland. Live and learn.

It's not the lens, it's the 5d3. When I owned the 5D3, I had problems with focusing using the 100-400 to shoot action. the 5d3 is simply too slow (when compared to 1d series bodies).

Coupled with a 1dx, the lens is phenomenal.
