So as stated...the 60D has been out for 7 months...should I wait for an updated version??

I thought about getting the T3i, but I like the feel of the 60D much better!

you can wait and wait and wait and there's always greener grass over the hill. isn't there something you'd like to be photographing in the meantime?

as foobar noted, the XXD series is typically on an 18th month cycle, so you've got 11 months of missed photography to think about if you wait. it's a great camera that I've recommended to a few close friends and they really love what they're getting out of it.

I just picked one up last week, other than the plastic body and lack of micro-adjust I like it. At it's price point I'm not disappointed at all and in fact quite pleased. It's debatable whether the micro-sdjust is needed. I tried the Canon 24-105 L and the 100 macro and they were right on the money. I also tried a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and it wasn't even close, sent it back for another copy. I have a 100 L macro :) due in this afternoon, will post here only if it is not right on the money, meaning I would benefit from micro-adjust. The plasic body seems rugged enough. I was willing to spend for a 7d but passed since it doesn't have manual adjust audio input (are you listening Canon??) plus the articulated hi-res LCD is very desirable for me.

I know if I were Canon, especially with everything going on in Japan right now, I'd definitely get into the firmware upgrade business...i.e. offer additional features via firmware for a price. I'd shell out $99 extra for micro-focus adjust or maybe the 3x video crop/zoom thingy from the T3i on a 60d as downloadable firmware upgrades. I bet a lot of 7d owners would pay $99 for adjustable audio inputs. Given the lack of overhead its pure profit for them and might be a very attrictive revenue stream until things settle down in Japan.

So my Canon 100mm macro L comes in and it has exactly the same front focus on this 60d body as a new Tamron 17-50 and a new Sigma 50. Bad as I hate to say it, no micro-adjust means it all goes back to the store. No way am I spending for L's and having a 60d shoot thru them OOF. Canon screwed up not putting micro adjust on this body...they lose the sale of the body, several L's and have the story told why they lost those sales... I'd have bought the 7d to begin with but it doesn't have manual audio levels. Oh well, I guess I'll be shooting a Nikon. Sad, the 60d is soooooooooooo close but in the end its crippled enough to be useless.

No don't wait.

Well really it depends what you have now and what you can't do because of it!

For me it was the 400D low ISO limit that forced me up to the 60D 3 months ago - LOVING IT - especially the dual roller dials - way better than the one control dial on the 400D.
Great battery life, amazing ISO performance, and with almost twice the Mpixels i can crop to half the image size and still be as detailed as before.
Have i said before ITS GREAT, even the flippy screen and live view when the shot needs to be taken from a odd angle etc.

But remember improving your technique will probally be a better investment, when i 1st got the 60D i was thinking "mmm love the extra features, but are my pics really any better (except in low light)" then i religiously tracked soem other users with older kit who produced better photo's; i tried to reproduce their work again and agian - and yes now i'm getting better pics - but more from better technques than purley the camera.
Cheers
Stuart

And wait for what exactly? If I was in the market for that kind of model I'd rather try to find a new 50D at a good price. Or save for a 7D.

I just sent a 60d back due to focus issues and picked up a new in box 50d/28-135 kit for 7 bills. Sure is a big upgrade for being a "downgrade" is all I can say. Of course the fly in the ointment for some will be no video on 50d.

I don't think there's going to be an updated 60D for a while, They should start announcing the new pro cameras soon like the 5D, 1D... Since the 60D got announced recently you should buy it now if you're just waiting for something in the same price range to arrive. All the new stuff that should arrive soon will probably be expensive..over 2k.

Arh, yeah, I have the same concern. I heard the new DIGIC V is coming out soon. And it will not be replaced until the next 4-5 years so to me, I don't need a new camera right away, I would just wait.

On another thought, the current DIGIC IV is "tried-n-trusted" (I read it somewhere that I don't remember where) processor. The new DIGIC V doesn't guarantee to be the same. Not all the new stuff is a good one. However, Canon is the best so if it announces the new generation, it should be the better one, or at least just as good.
