B+W filter advice

Hello,

Thanking of buying B+W 82 010 UV Haze MRC Nano for the canon 24-70 f/2.8L II , and was wondering if you can help me with these questions :( :

is it adding any vignetting ?

what are the main difference between: nano, slim and standard?
B+W 82mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter
B+W 82mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter
B+W 82mm UV Haze Slim MRC 010M Filter

Do the lens caps and hood fit with the B+W nano filters or with which filter works the best please? ( as i know some filters cant hold the lens cap and hoods)

Thank you for all your help!

You will be very happy with that filter. It will not add vignetting and the lens cap will fit. The slim version will not take the lens cap and I only use those on UWA lenses. The nano coating is easier to keep clean and it has a sturdier mechanical construction (brass). Good choice!

F-Pro is the standard mount, it's 5mm think and has front threads so lens caps fit (that's first on your list, if they don't specify a mount, it's F-Pro). Slim is 3mm thick, and has no front threads, B+W provides a slip-on cap. XS-Pro is the best of both worlds, 3.4mm thick and has front threads.

I use an XS-Pro UV on my 24-70/2.8L II, but I can actually stack an F-Pro UV on top of the XS-Pro with no additional vignetting, so the F-Pro alone should be fine.

Note that the front threads on the XS-Pro have about one less turn, so there's a slightly larger gap with the lens cap than with the F-Pro. I haven't ever had an issue with that in practice.

Hope that helps!

This is quite amusing.
The OP had posted this exact same question on FredMiranda and I replied to it, quoting (linked) Neuro's post from February with the picture of the two mounts.
Now I see the same question here, and of course, Neuro's response with that picture.
Well, I suppose the OP will get multiple validation of the same information :)

@ Eldar – you might want to test your UWA lenses, if you find the slip-on caps annoying (I do, my only Slim filters are CPL, bought before they released the XS-Pro CPLs, which are thinner than the Slim).

I tested the 16-35/2.8L II, which can take even a standard F-Pro filter with no additional vignetting.

Thanks John, Interesting. As you say, the (always-fall-off) slip-on caps are quite annoying.
