So to anybody who has preordered bith BHP, what does it say for your order status when you log in and look at your orders?

New Order, Back order, Pending? An approximate shipping date or what?

When you open the "track order" screen it just tells you "new order processing". There is no anticipated ship date or anything so I dunno if there is any truth to the rumor that the 5DmkIII may be shipping "this month". Doesn't really matter to me though... It will be available whenever it is available. I'm just happy that I got on the pre order early enough to possibly get one on the first shipment... errr... or at least not have wait as long as I would have to wait for it to become a regularly stocked item in stores. ;D

I confirm that the only info I have on my order is "new order processing", no shipping date mentioned.
The availability at the end of March is not a rumor, it is quoted in Canon official press release, but it is far from being a guarantee that Canon will honor his words.

Edit: it may not be an official info in the press release since I could not find the availability info on canon.com. I just placed my order with B&H and it says "preorder, released in limited qty". I don't see anything about when it'll be released though. And it does say that my credit card was "amount charged - $3499.00".

Weird though, isn't it usually policy to maybe take use your card to reserve the pre-order, but actually charge the card when it ships?

The $3499 is a temporary charge B&H does to confirm that you can actually buy the camera. The pending charge will disappear in a day or two and you won't actually get charged until the camera ships.

I did preorder from Adorama, and of course I would like to receive the camera "soon", but I find it hard to believe the "end of March" date - my guess is that, yes - they will start shipping in late March, but only to a select few buyers - pros that get their stuff directly from Canon.

The people that buy from places like B&H and Adorama (or their equivalents in other countries) will probably have to wait a bit longer ... April/May?

Since it it the first time that I do a pre-order on B&H (normally, I just buy items in stock), what does it mean ?

Does it mean that I ordered too late and did not make it to the pre-order waiting list ?
Do you have a different status ?

This is the first time I pre-ordered from bh as well but I put my pre-order in within the first 5 minutes of the pre-order going live. I did see it as "backordered" before the pre-order went live so I'm not sure how many people put their orders in during that period. I didn't know what to make of it so I just kept refreshing the page until the status changed to "pre-order". This all happened almost immediately following the 5DmkIII appearing on the canonusa website shortly after the official announcement. So to answer your last question. my order status also says "backordered". That being said, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about missing the first shipment that bh receives since we don't yet know how many units it will be.

It seems that some webstore makes a difference between in stock (they have it right now) / pre-order (when your order one camera of the lot that the store is expecting to receive at a fixed date) / and back-order (the store has forward your order to the manufacturer but you have no clue on when the camera will be available)
Maybe B&H does not make a difference between preorder and backorder

Some people in the forum say that they are n°4 in the pre-order list... but they do not say which store...
If anyone had already pre-ordered any gear on B&H, is there a different pre-order status ?
