If you could only coose one camera between the Canon 1D MKIV and 5D MKIII,which would you get?And why?

The 5DIII is for me the better all round package.

Pros - higher mps, lighter weight, better colours, better high ISO

Cons - more fps, 1.3 crop, better AF, AF point metering

I had a 5DII which I could do most things - even the much maligned AF didn't impact me too much. If the fps had been 6 I would have still been using this

It is a difficult choice, but with only 1 body the 5DIII would get my vote, just

To add to the list:

1D4 pros:
Integrated battery grip (the 5D3 grip is just plain uncomfortable, IMHO)

5D3 pros:
Silent shutter mode that really is quiet

It does really depend on your use. for wildlife where you are focal length limited, the 1D MK IV is the one to get. For low light and general usage, the 5D MK III edges it out.
Its a hard choice, and comes down to how you use it.

Exactly. It's hard to be a pro and stay specific to one area. You'd never make enough money. So I can see why a lot do studio work and photojournalism. In that case, you almost have to have two cameras. My first combo was 5D Mark III and 1D Mark IV. I used the 5D3 for weddings and the 1D4 for track. I just had to.

It is said that 1D bodies have more accurate auto focus. Do you still think this is true regarding the 5D Mark III and 1D Mark IV? I've missed an awful lot of shots with the 1D4 whereas, I'm not kidding here, I haven't missed any with the 5D3. That was one of the reasons I have a second one, because the AF in low light was so good, I would bring two with me with different lenses. The 1D4 I missed an awful lot of track shots due to OOF. Just a thought that maybe this was improved in the 5D3?

I think that close to a million 5D MK III / D1 X cameras are now out there (Me too). The autofocus is a big step up for Canon The 1D MK IV is good, but the new AF is much better.

5 D Mk iii pros low light noise slightly better ease of use, the menus are far better organized.
HDR mode for in-camera editting if you're lazy like me
dedicated live mode button

Consneed lightroom 4 to edit RAW
low energy floresant bulbs at certain shutter speeds smears colors
weather sealing not as thorough

1d mk iv pros ergonomics
f8 max aperature focusing
1d's just hold their value better

I own both, listed both on CL along with my 7d then never returned emails because I can't decide either.
