Canon 400mm f5.6 in combo with the 5D3

Hi all,
Has anybody used the Canon 400mm f5.6 in combo with the 5D3? If so, how it the performance of this combo for sports?

I have not used this combo for sports, but have used it extensively for birds, both static and in flight. I would think that my application is as challenging as yours.

In my experience, the performance has been stellar. Fast and accurate AF and great IQ.

If the combo can handle the above, I'm sure it won't have any problem with sports. If the f/5.6 aperture becomes an issue, the ISO on the 5D3 can be cranked pretty high to get your shutter speed.

It all comes down to the type of sports and the lighting. If you have a 1/2000 shutter speed and low light, then the high ISO will reduce resolution, but the 5D MK III does reasonably well at up to ISO 12800.

BIF could be as challenging as sport. Very nice pictures so, if mine performs similarly I hope I can take some stills like yours.
