I got the 5D Mark III one day before a trip and I just realized on the trip that the eyecup cover (the rubber part) is missing. I think when I left I had it on the camera and I don't remember having falling.

Is this common? Anybody else had a similar experience?

Thanks.

I couldn't tell you how many of these I have lost from Canon bodies going right back to the 1990's. Some seem to fit better than others. If it's a sloppy one, take off the eye-cup, put tiny strips of tape against the body where the eye-cup grips, and it will firm up nicely. Experiment. It shouldn't be this way of course, but it's a functional workaround.

can you buy aftermarket eye cups with a 1D style blackout lever?

I doubt it. I think the 1-Series blackout lever is built onto the body, not the slide-on eyecup.

yeah but it wouldnt be that hard to build an aftermarket eyecup that has the level in it
it would be MUCH better than those poxy rubber thingos they give you,

I usually just hang a black lens cleaning cloth over the eyecup if i need to block light entry at the moment

True, whenever I un-box a new body, the little rubber thingy goes straight into the bin along with the glossy cardboard boxes, packing stuff, plastic bags & ties. Some people keep all this stuff. I prefer an uncluttered life.
