Sorry for jinxing this for you all, the only time I looked at a firmware update and thought "I think I have this problem" (3. Corrects the very rare phenomenon in which the shutter can no longer be released.) and went ahead and installed the update within a few days of release! :
Sometimes it seems like everything I touch breaks! :-[
On a lighter note, I contacted Canon Support and asked about the GPS getting the extra power setting so that it goes off when the camera is off instead of keep hammering the battery. The response was that my request would be forwarded to the relevant department.
As we know they are going to have to release another firmware very soon, if anyone else would like this feature I suggest you ask Canon soon!
