If anyone gets the message when trying to install the firmware that the installed firmware (in my case 1.01) is newer than the firmware to be installed (1.02), I now finally have the solution as to how it works.

Drag firmware 1.02 onto the CF Express card. Insert the CF Express card into the camera and remove (!!!) the SD card from the camera so that only the CFe is inside. Firmware Update is now possible :-D

I used the R5II in a hide yesterday, from 9 in the morning till 3 in the afternoon, with the screen continuously on. I kept a USB-C PD powerbank connected the whole time and the battery in the camera didn't discharge! So I didn't need the spare battery at all.

Using precapture and shooting a few video clips in between, the R5II is a very good nose-cheek-hand heater, no fears for shooting it during winter

One bug I ran into a few times is that during playback it only shows the image for the most recent shot. Scrolling through the shots will update the metadata and show movie controls for movies, but the image itself won't change. It needs a battery pull to fix.

And as you can see in the picture above, shaded woodland at the end of summer requires high ISO values, I really want DxO to add support for the R5II

Hi Koenkooi, I decided to go ahead and purchase the Anker 737/PowerCore 24K, the one you mentioned. I fully charged it and tested it with my R5II.

I have a question: while plugged into the camera, the time to recharge/remaining battery in hours keeps fluctuating from 6 hours and 40 minutes to 9 hours. Is this normal? Also, what charger do you use to charge the power bank? Thanks

I get the same fluctuations, probably some charge optimization thing on the Canon side. Hopefully nothing to worry about

To charge it I mostly use a “ugreen nexode 100W”, which I also take on trips. On my desk I have a Belkin Boostcharge Pro, which is big, heavy and overkill, but needed for my work devices
