</strong>Placeholders on a Canon France web site allude to compact cameras with full frame and APS-C sensors.</p>
<p>Could these be for EOS M, PowerShot or a new line of cameras from Canon?</p>
<p>We are starting to hear that something beyond the 70D announcement is coming, and we’ll try to confirm that as soon as possible.</p>

A good low light P&S would be nice, better would be an EOS m2 with a good AF system

I acquired an Olympus OMD E-M5 last week and this week got the EF adaptor.

For those who don't know about this camera it has built in image stability on the sensor level. With the EF adapter I shot the 100-400L handheld at 1/250 of a second. The smaller sensor turned it into an 800mm lens. Even at 5.6, manually focused it was really sharp thanks to the in camera stabilization.

If canon were to make a 1DX, but with a smaller sensor (and in turn smaller lenses) they would be onto an absolute winner of a camera. For me the OMD is missing a few important things. A Joystick an optical EVF.

Otherwise I would already be using it professionally. But they need to do something as I'm happy to shoot this at ISO6400, which is something the 1Ds3 couldn't do and that's only 5 years ago.

Interesting. Did you experiment with switching IS systems? Using lens IS only, then camera IS only, and then both in tandem? Did they play well together?

An APS-C or Full Frame P&S won't be big sellers. They may appeal to Very Serious Photo Enthusiasts, but Rebel buyers wouldn't want to spend more money for less camera. The Nikon COOLPIX A sells for about $1,100.00 which is a lot more than any Rebel with a Zoom lens included.

I think this rumor is a dud.

For the most part there no longer is a market for very many Compact/P&S cameras., no matter the sensor size. The Very Serious Photo Enthusiast may buy a $1,100.00 Nikon A (DX) or $2,800.00 Sony RX1 (FF). But there will be few, if any, people upgrading to them from Smart Phones.

The market for Interchangeable Lens Cameras will also start to shrink in a few years. For many people their next camera purchase will also be their last camera purchase. For a lot of people the 7D2/70D or D400/D7100 will be their last camera.

This doesn't apply to gear collectors This and the next generation of cameras (7D2/D400) have reached a point that improvements will be small, and hard to see for most people. The next generation of Full Frame cameras will be hard to top.

If printing big means 13x19 Ink-Jet prints, 18Mp gives you 275 DPI and 21Mp gives you 295 DPI. NO need for 56Mp

ok, to start out, I really really really wanted to believe this rumor, but after reading the comments and the more recent post I think this is likely untrue and the explanation seems legit.
That being said, I go away for 2 days, and there isn't even 2 pages of responses to a large sensor compact rumor? I thought this would have at least 5 pages of replies, if not 18 like the 70D rumor. For me, the release of some RX1 competition, especially one with an interchangeable lens would be about the best thing possible. I'm getting ready to sell a lot of my gear and probably move down to something smaller and lighter since i'm planning to travel for a while soon, and a FF EOS-M like camera would be about the best thing ever. Carrying heavy DSLR's all day and huge, heavy lenses just isn't that appealing to me.

this is a ridiculous comment, and will almost definitely guarantee to be laughable in about 5 years. there is no way the camera industry will fail to find a way to sell cameras to more people in the future. if nothing else, they will find a way to sell people DSLR quality sensors and AF systems(with increased ISO performance) in smaller, lighter bodies. Guaranteed.

It is a very tempting camera but if Canon would release a beefed up version of G1X with 10x optical zoom f/2.8...

If information comes in, it will be posted on the home CR page. Rumors are just that, and most of them are just phoney.

Don't even think that a CR1 rumor is going to happen. CR3 rumors happen 98% of the time, and CR2 about 50% or less, CR1 about 1 in 500.

How about an ultra-simple no-frills compact with the highest quality fixed lens, Manual controls and RAW.
