DSLR as a Video Cam

This past weekend I saw a wedding photography use a Canon 60D as a video camera. He set it for a wide shot and just had it set to record for hours. The 60D was running Magic Lantern so he didn't have that 12min limit and he had a battery pack installed so it lasted fairly long. He also had a separate sound recorder set up closer to the action.

Honestly for events, or anything you can't do multiple takes for I would not use DSLR's. I think actual video cameras work much better for these situations and there is much less of a chance of something going wrong. Not to say that people don't use DSLR's for weddings, but there are definitely some things you have to work around. If it's just a one man crew I think it's especially dangerous using DSLR's, I'd definitely recommend and assistant.
