EF400 2.8

Im eying up a EF400 2.8, With 2 stop image stabilisation this is 2nd hand and will be paired with a 1Dmk4.
what are your thoughts of this lens?

I shoot with a 1Dx and 400 f/2.8L I IS and it is heavy but the image quality is absolutely outstanding. I use it at nearly every sports event I shoot. I can recommend it for sure!

Its the only white lens that didn't get an optical upgrade in the latest batch of re-designs...the mkI was probably Canon's sharpest white lens. The mkII is lighter and technically a better lens (AF, IS etc) but optically it's pretty much the same. The canon 400mm f2.8 LIS is an amazing optic. It's the only lens I know where it doesn't need stopping down with a 2x tc if you use a tripod and live view focusing.
