err 20

Hi Guys
Has anyone encountered this "ERR 20" message come up before whilst in the field.
It seems to be coming up regularly, making it unable to use the camera.
It suggests i turn the camera off, replace/ reinstall the battery and turn on again.
Im using an EOS 5 MK II,L series lenses, battery pack and cable release.
All my equipment is Canon,as are the batteries in the BG-E6 Pack.

I started getting the dreaded er 20 on a 7D while filming a doc. in South America. It actually started here and my camera would not work for 30 minutes. I continually took out the battery and did this and that. Eventually, it magically started working. Then it happened on the filming trip. Same thing. No reason, just didn't work for 20 minutes or so and after lots of fiddling, it just came back on.

On that trip, my camera got stolen though. Worst trip ever. I think that's something you have to send it in. The problem is, the er20 might be hard to reproduce in the repair shop.

i got this message on an older 30d, and after doing research online and trying the battery pull, lens contact cleaning, etc a few times, i took it in to a local repair shop.

in the end, i had to have the shutter replaced.

I've seen it once on my 5D II. A hard reset worked for me (first 5 steps below), else I would have had it repaired.

It is possible that this error is related to the CF card being used in your camera. We recommend that you try formatting the CF card by following these steps:

If the issue persists, please try an alternate CF card in the camera. If the alternate CF card works fine, then your first CF card was the cause of the issue. If not, there may be another issue with the camera. If so, please follow these steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the message does appear, your camera may require service.
If not, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the message still appears, your camera will require service.
