Going from a 30D to the new 5D III.

Looking for some resources, video etc. to help me learn this new camera as quick as I can.

Ideas?

Thanks, Lance

Instruction manual? If you don't have the camera yet, you can even read it first so when you get the camera you're ready to go!

I am 10 times worse off than you. Went from a 300D to 5D3. So a few quick tips:

1. Like pdirestajr said, read the manual.
2. Then read it again - and again if needed...
3. If you are looking for sharp snaps, do not shoot animal fur under a fan (or while it is windy)
4. Remember the focal length and shutter speed rule and don't imagine you are superman on that stability of camera count.

I mucked up on #2, #3 and the second half of #4 for a while till I figured it out...

Other than that, ENJOY!

There are some really good online tutorials. Go to the Canon learning center and search for 5D MK III. Of course, you will have some issues, so after each time you use the camera, review images with a eye as to how to improve the image next time.

First order of business, AFMA your lenses. You cannot get sharp images if you are front or rear focused.

I stick to a high shutter speed at first, and let the ISO rise. This helps get sharp images, and noise is not much of a issue even at ISO 3200.

Once I am getting good and sharp images, then I start to experiment with other settings. It only took me 200 images or so, coming from the 5D MK II and 7D, and my images were lookiing pretty good.

I'm getting up to speed on it. Lots of options to say the least. Way more than I am used to. Pretty happy with what I have seen. Heading out of town this weekend, will get some practice time in =) Will possibly get over to the ocean which will be great, plenty of opportunities there.

Dont fiddle with the options until you know what they do - take the settings out of the bos, except to change to RAW.

The only other function to change will be the AF - I suggest turning on the expanion point (all points round) as this will help the AF on moving objects.
