In reference to CRguys post: 5DIV and 1D X II What could be the bigger things ?

CRguy said in his post today: There “won’t be anything groundbreaking” in the EOS 6D Mark II, but the goal is to make it a good evolutionary upgrade. Expect bigger things from the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II.

So what do you think, might come?

We may get a couple of surprises. The majority of us are viewing the future from the view point of what we have, so they may well have thrown in something we have not thought of. I am hoping a lot of things stay rather stable. The ergonomics and menus etc. on the existing cameras are good in my view and I don´t believe I would be happy with too many changes.

I think we will see AF improvements, both in speed and accuracy and we may get a wider spread of AF points. I also believe we will see metering improvements, to tackle more difficult and changing lighting situations. I think we will see minor increases in resolution and some improvement in high(er) ISO performance. I hope we finally will see DR and noise (at least) equal to Sony at lower ISO and better at higher ISO. I am also hoping for improved manual focus capabilities.

There is quite a bit of tech to play catch up on. With Samnsungs aps-c camera taking the FPS crown, I would imagine they are going to try finding a way to beat that in the 1-series successor. Only thing I am sure they will want to have.

I want wifi and radio control in the flashes for just general purpose sake. I think that would push more sales of their XXX ex-rt flashes and be a worthwhile investment. Giving the 5dIV a better buffer to handle raw bursts would also be highly appreciated.

super bonuses is 4k (won't happen), and allowing an override for 30 minute time limit. My desires are modest.

They are going to add some numbers to the model names.

Look for a 1D-65, and a 5D-62

That way the DXO scores are printed right on the cameras and you no longer have to visit the DXO website to know how horrific and incapable the Canon sensors are at taking photos. ;)

WiFi and GPS should be standard in any camera released in 2015 and I am inclined to include touch screens.
I mean come on, every phone has them why can't DSLR's?
Oh yea because then they can't charge for exorbitantly overpriced accessories.

I don't think anyone would expect an iPhone to take the sort of punishment that a magnesium-bodied, high-end DSLR can.

I would see a touch screen as a retrograde step.

Agree on the WiFi & GPS, though.

My iPhone has taken falls that would make any DSLR explode. LoL
Still working just fine!

Touch screens are a miracle for speeding up the process of reviewing and zooming into images to check for focus or people's eyes open for group shots. Pinch zooming and drag scrolling are far faster than using the zoom buttons and joystick.

Changing settings and selecting focus points is only part of the usefulness of touch screens.

Retrograde? Try it you will NEVER go back to non-touch. Same can be said about swivel screens although I can see where it might make weather sealing tougher.

A touch screen is good but not a must, when you look through the viewfinder the wheels are great, as for the swivel, I do miss it when using the 5D3 coming from the 600D, but yeah weather sealing is more important.

If Canon can't make a swivel screen that is water proof, then they should just close shop and give up the camera business. A high school newbie shop class student could figure that one out. Other manufacturers have done swivel screens that are highly weather resistant.

Swivel screens probably have more false myths about how susceptible they are to failure than any other aspect of camera systems. It actually makes me really mad that those so stuck with the old ways have ruined my chances of using a full frame Canon with a swivel screen. I shoot 100% landscapes and have used the swivel screen on my other cameras over 90% of the time to save my knees, back, and keep my cloths clean and dry. I guess one can't be considered a pro unless they are willing to strain their back or lay belly down in the mud for hours on end. ;)

Soo.. your iphone will be okayish after being kicked down stairs... and after being submerged in water and frozen and then being dried in a campfire..?

Well the 7D didn't take perfect shots after those and a few other "tests" but it still managed to work pretty well.

It's fallen on concrete and rocks. It also fell into the Kenai river while salmon fishing with no case. Never put it in a campfire... yet... :)

Falling damage is a weird thing - my phone survived 3-4' drops onto concrete, asphalt, and stone just fine. What killed it? Falling 2' onto laminate "hardwood" flooring. Which has actual "give" to it. There's a whole lot of random to exactly how the impact occurs.
