I registered all of my camera gear and came up with 58 points, I have never had a bad experience with plain old canon service so my question goes out to anyone that is a member. Is it worth the money to be a member of canon gold or platinum cps?

In the US, Gold level is $100/yr and Platinum is $500/yr.

As to worth, consider the discount on service - if you need $500 worth of service, gold membership paid for itself.

I had Gold for a while and Canon was VERY attentive when I needed a repair on my 1Ds III. The shipping and repair was expedited and they called several times to follow up and make sure that everything was okay .

If it's for your business, it's definitely worth having. If it's a leisure activity, maybe not if you're in a country where you have to pay for CPS.

I am a gold member. Without a doubt the gold membership is worth the $100. The strap is really nice, borrowed gear and free cleanings... You have any problems, questions and concerns, they bend over backwards to help. Can't speak for platinum. I have the equipment to qualify but don't know if the extra gifts and 4 extra cleanings is worth $400 extra.

Without a doubt, gold is worth the cost. If nothing else, having the free equipment evaluation loans are of great value. Being able to borrow an item at no cost (aside from return shipping) for two weeks so that you can test it before buying is extremely useful. Most rentals will run you almost $100 for two weeks. The clean and checks which usually cost around $50 (and you get two for gold) already pay for the membership. 24/7 phone support, event support, Live Learning discounts, repair discounts and expedited service...

Yea. It's worth it for any professional to get on board the CPS program.

As for the platinum level...personally I think it's only worth it if you tend to damage a lot of your euipment or very often. I've yet to really do any major damage so for now, I'll stay gold.

Absolutely no hesitation pulling out the Mastercard each year for the CPS Gold $100 annual fee.
The sheer quality and magnitude of service by CPS was the prime reason I switched from Nikon years ago.
