name that lens

A story of lions attacking a camera... it's the daily mail so accuracy is not their strong point.

Clearly it's a 40D (which looks suprisingly undamaged).. but what's the lens?

This was the moment another photographer on the safari got the idea to try to take a picture of the lions from very close with a landscape lens.
'But the photographer didn't anticipate how curious the lions are.
'When they saw the strange thing they all moved towards it.


There's the smoking gun. Right there. Wanted close-ups with a landscape lens. Didn't anticipate the lions moving in.

Isn't that a wired shutter release hanging down in one photo?

Yup, definitely the canon Ef-s 10-20

We know it's a canon lens by the last picture of the mangled camera+ lens. That eliminates a lot of possibilities. Looking at the profile and rings of the lens in the other pics, (especially the 3rd picture) it matches the 10-20 exactly.

Looks like an EF-S 10-22 to me.
