I suspect the driver is that P&S cameras are trending with Gen Z.
You seem to be correct.

There was something maybe two years or more ago that it was becoming cool in Japan for buying the earlier p&s because the noise offered a analig like quality that separates the look from contemporary devices. I think at least the Fuji or maybe it was another manufacturer won't allow chimping.

Anyway, mores specifically I (sorry wasnt clear) was referring to the CIPA results mentioning the price increases:

The shipment value increases are even more stark, identifying that the camera manufacturers are not only increasing their shipments, but shipping more expensive cameras. Shipment values of built-in lens cameras have increased by 49% while interchangeable lens camera values have only increased by 1%. This tends to indicate that the product mix for interchangeable lens cameras is getting less expensive, while the product mix for compact cameras is increasing in value

I neglected to consider Trump's Tarrifs have influenced price increase as well...
