Rebel T5i/700D or 60D

In my opinion, you shouldn't go for either one of those cameras. Instead, go for the new 70D or the "older" T4i. If you are willing to spend some more money, the new 70D will deliver better image quality and AF speeds, especially in live view. If you want to same some money, go with the T4i , which is EXACTLY the same as the T5i (other than the mode dial) and MUCH cheaper. Just my opinion,

The main difference is in the handling.
It's easy to get hung up on specs on paper, these days pretty much all DSLRs are capable of excellent images.
The 60D / 70D cameras are larger, with pentaprism viewfinders (clearer, sharper, brighter) top plate LCD screen for settings, rear quick control dial to help ergonomics.
In terms of images both these and a 650D or 700D would give you comparable quality.
It's literally in your hands. And thats where you have to try them.

I'm guessing that you're coming from a P&S or cell phone & need to learn your way around a DSLR (& processing software). If so, you probably don't need to go with the newest gear.
As the above author indicated, I definitely would NOT go w/ the T5i. You can save some $$ going with the a T2i,T3i or T4i. Especially if you don't mind refurbished. You can also wait for a sale @ Canon USA and save quite a bit of $$$ on their refurbished cameras.
If you don't mind a somewhat larger camera & want a little more room/function to grow into (although the IQ will be very similar to the Rebel series) you can pick up a 60D for an incredible price now a days. The 60D will also do just about everthing the rebel does a little bit better. The viewfinder is sharper, it will focus faster, shoot faster, shoot @1/8000, flash speed is 1/250, etc., etc. And if you are new to DSLR's, I really would not recommend the 70D over the 60D for now. Although the 70D will be current with many more bells & whistles, it will cost twice as much or more (depending on what deal you can get on the 60D). & the reviews on the 70D aren't out yet so it's uncertain how much improvement in IQ there will actually be. The 70D will certainly be a better camera but if you are just learning, & there isn't a significant IQ improvement, do you really need to pay the premium that's charged for brand new models? You can save some serious $$ if you wait 6-12 months b4 buying one of the newly released cameras. You'll also have a much better idea about what you want & need.
And fyi: If you don't mind waiting a few more months, there are usually some incredible deals on Black Friday. Both the T4i & 60D have been replaced so you should be able to choose between a number of bargains.
Why save some bucs on your camera body? The reason I'm suggesting that you try to save a few bucs on your camera body purchase is so you can set the savings aside for additional equipment. Because, after a few months, you are going to want at least 2 things. An upgraded lens or two & a speedlight. Depending on what you plan on shooting, you'll be fine with the kit lens/etc for a while. But once you know your way around the camera & various shooting situations, the best way to improve your photo IQ will be pick up a better lens & a good flash.
Anyway if you're fully familiar w/ DSLR's, perhaps just not the Canon models, just ignore most of the above & overlook it as a soapbox rant. But if not, then regardless of what you end up picking: Good luck, have fun & welcome to the DSLR addiction crowd!

If this will be your first DSLR, I agree with those who have suggested buying a refurbished or used Rebel T2i/ T3i/T4i or 50D/60D. The T5i especially is over priced compared with the almost identical T4i.
Personally, I would prefer a 50 or 60D due to their larger, brighter pentaprism viewfinders and better control layout. But, the Rebels have advantages as well. I suggest going to a local camera store or Best Buy and handling these and other DSLR's to see how you like the weight and handling.
Starting out with a refurbished or used camera is a great way to learn photography. After a year or so you can upgrade to a newer, more capable camera if you feel you need to or continue on with what you have. I think its always more important to spend money on quality lenses instead of camera bodies. Lenses hold their value and will be usable for decades. Camera bodies become obsolete pretty quickly as new technologies are developed.
