Hello all,

In the manual of the 500 f4L II it's written:

Replacement with the included monopod mount can be done at a Canon Service Center at cost.
Since the mount requires special fastening, as a safety precaution, do not replace the mount yourself.

What is so special about that mount? It's only four screws. What can happen if you do it yourself?

The heavens will open up and lightening will strike you down.

Of course, that didn't happen when I replaced the foot on my 600 II with the RRS LCF-53...

Just tighten them well, you'll be fine.

I have a 500mm F4 IS (original, not II) and could not get the foot loose (I got the first screw loose but the 2nd would not turn so I gave up). Any suggestions besides stronger torque? I tried using a small allen key - perhaps that was my problem.
