Photographing the Adventure
Question to Group. My Sons friend is trying to go to Germany for school this summer and needs some extra $.
He has offered a swap of my 60D for his 5D Mk II and some $. My current setup is a 60D with BG-E9 Battery Grip. The 5D Mk II is without battery Grip. I know the Mk III is out and soon a 70D will be upon us. Should I make the deal? All of my Lens are EF except a Tokina 12-24. I knows its going from APC to Full Frame and I would lose the extra Reach. Plus I would have to Get CF cards. I want to help the guy. Just asking options.
I shoot a lot of landscape.

I guess that depends on how much cash he'd want for the trade, what kind of lenses you have for a FF camera, your need for the increased ISO performance of FF, and whether you have intentions of upgrading to a new camera any time soon. The 5d2 is a fine camera (providing that one you'd be getting was taken care of - a risk), and theoretically would be 'better' for landscapes - though this will depend on what lenses you have for FF and what kind of light you usually shoot in.

Personal relations aside, I'd have to evaluate if I even want to make the move - if my current camera is coming up short in areas I care about - and then decide if the deal is worth it to me.

He is your son and you want to help him out. The answer should be clear - he is family, you want to help him out, ...

Help him out .. in what ever form that takes (exchange cameras including cash, gift, loan, ...)

It's his son's friend. It's the 4th-6th words in the post. You stopped reading that early? ;)

Once you step into FF world, I don't think you ever want to go back to crop. FF IQ is much cleaner. Believe it or not, my little P&S camera has 35mm sensor in it and I enjoy it very much.

I bet 1cent.... the IQ of 60D replacement WILL NOT out perform 5D II, in term of higher ISO of course.

It depends how deep your pockets are. He wants your 60D, battery grip and some cash. Offer him the Tokina 12-24 lens instead of cash. I think the Tokina is APS-C and not full frame. You'll need your cash to buy lenses. I don't know the fair prices of your stuff or his so I am guessing. You may have to sweeten the pot with $500.00 cash plus your gear. That would really help him out. You and he could swap memory cards and you both save a small amount of money.

When the 70D comes out and if it has the specs that you want you could buy it if you can still afford it.

I think a 5Dll in good shape is a still desirable camera to have.
