I have several lenses that have sat snug in the camera gear backpack I have for several years, that I have not used for some time. I have noticed recently that the lens grip to some degree, but mostly ridged the focusing ring, has become sticky to the touch and leaves a black residue on my hands.
I'm assuming that this is age deterioration of the rubber??
Is there anything that can be done to stabilise this, e.g. dabbing with isopropyl alcohol, or has this reached a point where the rubber will need to be replaced by an authorised repair centre / Canon directly?
Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received.
