Just in Washington DC for a few days to attend the National Academy of Sciences meeting, and I slung the SX50 into my bag, just in case. Then, this morning a surprise visit by the man himself. I was in a better position than the press with their big white lenses. Sorry the images are so small but the BA lounge has very slow internet.

Nice ones. I have had the SX50 for a couple days and am impressed so far. Far cry from my old G2 3X zoom.
I told myself that I would just use this camera for 2 weeks straight, leave my DSLR home and see what it can do.

@1200mm it is nothing short of astonishing. Assuming you have good light and not 3 cups of joe. The detail at the long end is pretty darn remarkable. Macro has sweet spot of distance and a little zoom enabling very close pics.
If this could take great pics of moving objects, I may never need much else. :p
All @ iso 100

Herring gull @1200mm shutter 800
Egret @1200mm shutter 400
Osprey Nest@~600mm shutter 640
Gall @~100mm shutter 80

What a fun camera to use.
