This December I have time to play with new toys and also some funds to improve my equipment.

Something that I never thought possible happened, TAMRON usually always just the runner up in my choice (with the exemption of cheap Travel ZOOMS) suddenly produces sexy lenses and after testing two Tamron lenses for a week I will put two of my longest companions the 17-35 L and the 24-70 L up for sale and keep the Tammy 15-30 and 24-70 VCD.

Sure there have been almost 3 successors to the 17-35 L and the 24-70 L II outperforms the Tamron counterpart but going now weather sealed from 15 to 70 mm in 2.8 and with the comfort of a modern stabilizer and 5 years warranty is comforting.

I shed a little tear when I gave away my 80-200 L and even more when saying good bye to the 200 2:8 L but somehow loosing the Brick and the Nova Flare does not make me sad.

It's actually funny, I always loved the way the 24-70 L makes use of the sun shade through the counter intuitive way the zoom extends. Now the Tamron 15-30 uses exact this technology in a more subtile way as well.

regards

I pressed post to fast:

The attached picture shows what a monster the Tammy 15-30 is.
All real estate I save in my bag by changing on the 24-70 side from Canon to Tamron is more than eaten up by the 15-30 which is felt twice as heavy than the Canon 17-35

If anyone has switched lenses same way as I than I would be happy to hear from you. ALso if selling out a Red Ring for a Tamron leaves any emotional scar tissue in the long run....

I have not switched lenses, but I recently bought the Tamron 15-30. You are right, it is a beast. I really do like it. I think it is well worth the money. It is an excellent lens and the weight does not bother me at all. I like a heavy lens... especially if I've spent fairly big money on it. Congratulations on a wise decision purchasing this lens.
