Fujifilm's Instax line has been a remarkable success for the company, as over the years it has been the profit driver for the camera lineup.

I use an original Leica Sofort and I find it a ton of fun. I bought the red dot Instax camera with a gift certificate, that's really the only reason I own one and would have probably gone with a Fuji branded camera had it been my own money.

I also recently received a Mint Instant Flex TL70 Plus as a gift and I am in love with it from an “oh my it's so pretty” perspective, but I haven't used it much as of yet, and that will change very soon.

For better or worse, “Retro” is in when it comes to camera design. I have no issue with more options for customers. If you're not into retro, that's totally ok, but for those that are, that's awesome too.

We now have a report from Fujirumors that Fujifilm is going to announce an interesting retro inspired Instax Wide EVO. For whatever reason, the new Instax will come with a “film rewind” crank that you must turn to print your image. That is a definitely an interesting design feature.

The current Instax Mini EVO has something similar, but apparently it will be a different implementation. Fujifilm actually calls it a “direct print button”, something we all miss on Canon cameras!

Fujirumors also notes that it will be the “best looking Instax camera ever made”. Design is always very subjective, as lots of people love the look of the big and bulbous Instax cameras in an array of colours that are already on the market.

The exact announcement date isn't currently known, but we would guess that it'll come before CP+, which begins at the end of February 2025.

  1. I haven't used a hand crank to eject film since my old Kodak Pleaser instant camera!

I have one Fujifilm INSTAX camera for each film size (mini/square/wide), but I didn't dive into the EVO product line. The concept is really neat. My equivalent is the standalone INSTAX printer to print digital images from my phone onto their film. The SQ6 and Mini 90 are both modern looking cameras, but their Wide cameras need a lot of help to look and handle better. I'm not sure why the Mini/Square cameras look one way, and the Wide cameras look another way.

The centerpiece of INSTAX in my opinion is their film. The colors are really amazing, especially compared to Polaroid. The wide format in landscape mode isn't to my taste (I prefer Polaroid in this regard), but when shot sideways in portrait mode, the wide format is quite nice.
