The United States and Japan have reached a framework in regard to tariffs, which is set at 15% for imports from Japan.
Canon USA officially increased prices across the board in late June, though there were avenues to get new gear at the former pricing at various retailers.
According to a report at PetaPixel, adjustments to pricing may not be done for the US market. Though they do have a plan in place to help offset some of the effects with “price increases and reducing costs. ” I missed this information in Canon's Q2 2025 financial results.
Canon's plan to reduce costs is by returning as much production back to Japan as possible and increasing automation in manufacturing, “with a focus on cameras.”
The price adjustments will not be equal across the entire lineup.
As for price increases, while considering the competitiveness of individual products, we will devise a detailed plan.
For example, a product like the EOS R5 Mark II might see a lower % price adjustment than a camera such as the EOS R1, just based on sales numbers and the competitiveness of the segment. We did see the biggest jump in price back in June on the EOS R3, as sales numbers have obviously dropped significantly with the arrival of the EOS R1.
Canon does expect demand in the US to fall in the coming quarter(s) but does expect to continue to increase overall sales of cameras and lenses by targeting Asia, particularly China and India. There are a few billion potential customers between the two countries to target.
The next year should be an interesting time.

It will be interesting to check for any new Canon body across the regions. Australia was either the same price as the US or lower (ex-taxes) previously for instance.
What this could mean is that the rest of the world is subsidising the US pricing tariff/tax revenue which would not be cool.
Whereas it seems that the EU duties/tariffs (not VAT) was passed through to customers there with their higher prices.
And only they will pay for those tariffs. 🙄 - Sure! Wake up! 🤐
Well, you don't need differential pricing when you are selling a camera for $5K that costs $700 to manufacture.
Canon won’t bring out a fixed lens camera which is their prerogative although they are normally profit driven if there is a niche.
That said, an Astro version of the R5 ie with ha filter a la the end-of-sale Ra could be a cheap SKU to sell. Maximise the ROI. A R5iia might be a harder sell given the slight loss of dynamic range and wasted AF chip and eye controlled AF.
Mercedes, Porsches and BMWs are getting bigly expensive . Too expensive for many former customers.
For the rich rest, there won't be enough money left to buy Asian made cameras.
2 flies wit one fly-swatter, isn't this just bigly brillant?
PS: And Kodak's 6 MP New Brownie* will sell like hell! 😊
* Crafted with bigly pride in the USA!
It's the Bigly Beautiful (Bankruptcy) Bill.
Don't fool with the official presidential wording. 😡
