Popular Photography
We previously posted about PopPhoto's declaration of a “great new dslr”.

It's the T2i.

A note to PopPhoto, the T2i isn't considered “new” in the photography world.

Thanks Nikon Rumors

  • A note to Canon Rumors…PopPhoto is not considered a photography magazine in the photography world.

  • I don’t understand what you are expecting from a magazine called “Popular Photograpy”. That is what they do; bring photgraphy to the masses. It is unreasonable to have even thought they would be on the “bleeding edge” of technology.

  • +1

It appears that, in this world of NOW, we need to invert an adjective that fits between ‘newest’ and ‘new’ since the newest dslr isn’t new anymore.

  • It said “great new” what, else should it be than a canon ;)
    a nikon? xD

  • I almost postponed the purchase of the T2i because of the “greatest new DLSR” rumour. Off to the store now…

  • Magazine content is typically prepared 6 months before the publication date. Don’t expect to read yesterdays news in a magazine, it just is not possible.

  • The magazine was just stating that Halley Barry’s cover is a special and not a monthly norm, and it’ll go back to the regular “Great new cameras”.

Most are jumping on it like flies on a turd and taking those words out of context.

And posting that statement in an editor’s column, down at the bottom is hardly “Declaration” of a new camera….

I’m not a subscriber of the mag, this is just sad.

  • Well put. The last issue I looked at was virtually all ads, with nothing in between. It seems like the vast majority of photo related magazines are like that.

  • you misunderstood what the magazin wrote.

even i as none native english guy understood what they meant.

they spoke about the cover in GENERAL….. and that on the next issue a camera will on the cover again an not a human… they don´t spoke about a great NEW camera never seen before.

you are not only to stupid to understand a PATENT…. you are not very bright at all….

  • Complain, mumble, grumble. At least it gave me a break from editing all day. Thanks CR – I for one appreciate it and am entertained as usual.

  • Wow Jason, not only do you not understand English too well, you don’t understand tact either!

  • > A note to PopPhoto, the T2i isn’t considered “new” in the photography world.

    Or “great”.

  • Ok, so this let a lot of people down. But really, what were we expecting? PopPhoto to release the 60D or what?

All they did was take some time to conduct tests and get a solid review for the issue. Besides, if the T2i is “old”, what’s the 7D? Ancient? And the 5D Mark II?

    Give PopPhoto a break.

  • I think that was the original title but someone missed the typo (‘P’ and ‘S’ are so close together on the board so I guess it’s forgivable) and they decided to just go with it.

  • Most of you folks don’t understand the lead time for a printed publication. Having read Modern Photography, Outdoor Photographer, etc. for decades, I’m used to seeing reports of “new” stuff months after it was out. We are spoiled by the speed of electronic communications.

  • I don’t know why everyone hates this magazine so much, It’s great for reading reviews of cameras/lens you already have, makes you jealous that you don’t own a Nikon. I’m personally a fan.

  • I agree and this is also why monthly magazines suck. Here in Hong Kong they have fortnightly magazines (Digi is the photography one) and they’re very up to date with their info (just a little behind the net).

Then again, Hong Kong mags are basically disteibuted in one city, which helps the process.

  • Jason, start your own rumours site please. Hope you like the sound of crickets chirping.

  • Exactly! I have a Canon Rumor for you. Popular Photography will be around a lot longer than this blog ever will be.

  • This perfectly illustrates why I no longer waste my time with this class of photography magazine. It’s all old news, and it’s all geared towards noobs.

  • I’d go for POOP Photo, only they had a proken “o” letter on the keybord

  • That’s exactly it. The writers and editors are all Noink nuthuggers since the film era. I should know, we were once regular subscribers of this mag when it was still relevant.

  • So where is spoiler to deny the 60D?

Though i agree its hard to squeeze between the 7d and 550D on anything but price, and maybe focus points.

  • “‘P’ and ‘S’ are as far apart as you can get, actually.”

As long as you don’t count the letters that are even further away.

  • No, they just publish them to provide some colourful wallpaper for corner shops.

  • L Ron Hubbard had a family. The E Meter told him they were all infested with thetans and he had them audited.

  • 4chan sucks big time. Bunch of hipster geeks who think they’re more important than they are.

I do agree with their war on Scientology though.

  • Oh and people who think knowing about 4chan makes them somehow special are worse. :P

  • They’re doing better than Harvey Norman here in Australia. They have a series of ads running on the One TV network, that state that the “latest in DSLR technology” (or something to that effect, “latest” is definitely used) is the Nikon D90. Presumably they’re overstocked and are still trying to get rid of the things.

  • Only ‘A’ and ‘Q’.

I’m referring to their placement on a QWERTY keyboard, Einstein.

  • M0r0n. Your idol Dubya started the war in Iraq and Afghanistan not Obama. And Dubya’s a Repug like you. Bye now kiddo. You just got 0wned massively.

  • There is a word in the English dictionary that fits your demands. It’s called “newer.”

  • I agree.

Why so much hate on such a good camera.. Canonrumors fail big. more than this magazine.

its not like it was a year from release.

at least you know they have thoroughly tested it :D

    ITS A CANON GUYS

  • Yeah, they should’ve reviewed a newer DSLR, like the….um…wait….there’s probably a newer one, right?
