Canon continues to develop optical designs which utilize internal zoom setups. Internal zoom is the favoured design for a lot of shooters, as there is always continuity with the lens when shooting with it. Telescopic zoom lenses can save you a lot of space in the bag, but there are compromises when using one.
We have two new internal zoom optical design patents, one of th elenses is full-frame and other is APS-C.
Both of the original RF 70-200mm f/2.8/4 lenses are super compact, but have telescopic zooms. That was more of an issue with sports shooters and the “throw” of small f/2.8 lens.
Canon seems to be working on an internal zoom RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Z. The design is still quite small, and only about 3cm longer than the original RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.

- Total length: 198.01mm

The second lens that looks interesting is a RF 18-50mm f/4 IS for APS-C sensors. A nice constant aperture lens with small size and weight? We think it would do well should it ever make it to market.
