Laowa Announces New Tilt Shift Macro Lenses

At CP+ in Yokohama, Japan, Laowa announced two more tilt-shift full-frame lenses. These lenses have no electronic connections and are available for the Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, L, and GFX mounts. These are impressive-looking lenses.

What I find interesting is the size of the projected image circle, which should give the unshifted image an impressive amount of resolution. Of course, with any tilt shift lens, the more you shift the lens the lower the resolution as you get near the extremities of the image circle.

Laowa 55mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift Macro

This is the first Laowa tilt-shift macro lens for a full-frame mirrorless camera. It's an impressive-looking lens with 14 elements in 11 groups, 15 aperture blades, and a 77mm front filter.

It's not a small lens, weighing 1345 g, measuring 85mm in diameter and around 169mm in length. The minimum focus distance is 27cm, which should certainly give a lot of room between the lens and the subject for a 1:1 Macro lens.

The projected image circle must be large, as Laowa promises up to an 8mm shift on medium format GFX series camera bodies. For full frame cameras, the shift movement is up to 12mm.

One thing I like about this lens is that it has built-in support for the Arca-Swiss mount, which means that when shifting, you can shift the actual camera body and not the lens. This makes stitching shifted images together far better because the stiched images will not suffer from parallax, as this happens when you shift the lens and the camera remains stationary.

This lens is available for Fujifilm GFX, Sony FE, Canon RF, L mount, and Nikon Z. It is fully manual and has manual aperture control.

Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift Macro

The Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift Macro lens shares many of the same characteristics as the 55mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift Macro lens.

The 100mm f2.8 Tilt-Shift Macro is a 1:1 Macro lens with a 10 degree tilt and an impressive 12mm shift capability. Even on medium-format GFX cameras,, this allows for 8mm of shift.

This Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift Macro features 13 elements in 10 groups. The aperture contains 15 blades.

The working minimum focus distance is is 32cm offering you the ability to stay further back from your subject, and with the tilt, you can tilt the plane of focus to get more of your object in focus without resorting to focus stacking.

The lens is big, beautiful and heavy, weighing in at 1215g and is 162mm in length with an 85mm diameter.

Because it has no electrical contacts, all control is done on the lens, including focus and aperture. It's available for Sony FE, Nikon Z, Canon RF, L, and GFX mount.
