We're told that a “world's first” macro is coming from Canon some time in the next year. This is all we were told and can't even begin to guess what the “world's first” would mean.
Canon has been pretty innovative in lens design, from the EF 8-15 f/4 zoom fisheye, the 1.4x built-in teleconverter in the EF 200-400 f/4L IS, and the latest EF 11-24 f/4L ultra wide. All 3 of those lenses are pretty creative.
