  • Oh, come on – we can create better random conjecture than that! It’s a 5D Mk. III; my cousin’s buddy knows an AP Olympic photographer who’s been testing the replacement for the 7D; it must be the EVIL camera that everybody knows Canon has to release to keep from being swept under the rug by Panny & Oly; my uncle had a flight layover in Japan in December and he says it’s a new camera based on a totally new lens mount since Canon can’t figure out how to make better lenses with the current mount.

    See, stuff like that!

  • A 5D Mk III would be great – but I have my doubts – an from previous info that Canon Rumours has obtained that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The thing is – I wanted a last large jump from my 400D – a 5D MK II would be nice – but if the MK III is round the corner… that would be a better option – as it will be my last upgrade for years.
(And yes, in this respect Autumn is round the corner for me – earliest “going shopping” – Easter or Summer… – or later if I decide to wait…)

  • what would you want in a 60D? looks like everything people “wanted” in a 60D is in the 550D … the only difference is that it’s not called a 60D.

It would be weird if canon would even find room between the 550 and the 7D to slot anything in for the time beeing.

my bet is on the 1D4s

  • We need more rumours… Quick thing of something… ANYTHING! Nikon Rumors has a COUNTDOWN TIMER. Wow! How exciting! Wish that we here in dull old Canon world had one :( I may have to buy the new Nikon D4/700s/x/800/400/whatever-they’re-planning-to-replace-the-D90-now-they’ve-kind-of-run-out-of-numbers.

  • I agree completely in terms of features, but you’ve gotta think Canon is seeing the huge price gap between the $800 T2i body and the $1700 7D body (there’s no way they expect the no-video 15mp 50D to compete with the less expensive but better spec’d T2i). I would think they’d want something inbetween to make people say “I want this to last a long time, so I’ll pay $300 more for basically the same camera but with better ergonomics (size of 50D) and better build quality”. And by people – I mean me. And this is why I’m still waiting for a 60D!

  • Canon is releasing the Nikon D700s because Nikon is too lazy to do it… Naming convention was a problem for the camera but the decision was ultimately made and it will be referred to as: Canon Nikon D700s

This may seem really stupid, but it’s totally true!

  • If Canon can stop wasting time on more bodies and instead updating their lens, photography in general would improve. What use is a new body attached to a 10 year old failing motor outdated glass and buggy IS?

  • Dual controls, fast access controls, battery friendly second display, rugged design. “Features” aint just software gee-wizzery. :-)

  • He’s holed up with me in my room, listening to Pink Floyd and trippin’ on direct print buttons.

  • its probably the 1ds. they need a special release date for it together with new lenses. but if its a 60D then maybe i might get one. the rebel feels like a toy and i cant see **** on its viewfinder

  • I’d love to see a 60D! Isn’t there another announcement tomorrow according to the rumour posted earlier?

  • This being the 1Ds IV makes the most sense I guess. 1Ds III came not that long after the regular version. Or was it the MkII? Anyways. The 60D would just clutter the landscape between the new 550 and 7D.

  • Canon T90D, the old T90 body with FD mount and digital back.

I’d love that camera, at least a kit to modify the T90 that I already own.

  • so that was your uncle talking my up at tokyo airport? man I should have known. Pls don’t pass along the photos we made or I will get hot ears from the legal department. nda and stuff. anyway: its an evil, its a bit smaller than panny and has 12MP + it floats since the lenses are filled with helium (we market it as feature, but boy have we lost cameras to the stratosphere during alpha testing)
    thats all folks.

  • NO room for a 60d!

The T2i is the 7d except for..
    1. FPS/2nd Digic4
    2. Build
    3. AF points
    4. Wireless flash controller

    T2i advantages..
    1. Movie crop mode
    2. Auto ISO Settings

I’m predicting.. the 7d only cost $100 more to manufacture than the T2i. They released the 7d first, because if it was the other way around, more than half of those sales would’ve went to the 1/2 priced T2i. It’s genius marketing.

The price of the 7d will come down to $1200-$1300, The 5d2 will drop again to $2200 to make room for the 3d.. and the T2i will settle at $750-$800. The 7d IS the 60d!!!

    The new line-up

    XS – $400
    XSI – $500
    T1i – $600
    T2i – $800
    7d – $1200
    5d2 – $2200
    3D – $3500
    1dIV – $5000
    1dsIV – $7000

  • So surprise that did not see the 60D but 550D.
What Canon are thinking ? Is he want all xxD user go for 7D ?

  • Micro Lens Adjustment
    100 percent magnification
    weather sealed
    8 fps

oh wait, that is the 7D

    I’ll stick with 7D

  • 60D MUST be coming before the 19th…and the T2i leaves much to be desired…sigh.

    1. Same little mirror VF. duh.

    2. Same tiny AF points. duh

    3. good sensor. yay.

sorry, folks, but ONE outa 3 doesn’t rock my boat.

    however,

Canon must improve the AF on the 60D, and if they can lighten the heavy 50D a bit…bingo. Waiting 12 more days.

  • Probably the: 1Ds4

    Will it be redesigned?

Will it have the 3:2 1.04 million dot display?

Will it include the video function button of the 7D?

Will it keep the same sensor size 36 mm x 24 mm?

Will it have any dynamic cropping abilities?

Will it have the same AF capabilities as the 1D4?

Will it have a Digic 5 processor? Or two?

Will it break the 30 mpx barrier?

Will it have at least a 5 fps burst rate?

Will it be the new king of low light for Canon? Clean ISO 12800?

What other unheard of features will it have?

Will it launch with new zoom lens(es)? 24-70 IS? 14-24 2.8 IS?

    Will it launch with new prime lens(es)? 135 f/1.8 IS? 200 f/2.8 IS? 300 f/2.8 IS II? 500 f/2.8 IS II?

  • ITs not the evil!!! Its the new model; the saint! 15fps 150 point af and when you fart it releases the sent of roses.

  • You’re forgetting micro adjustments, view finder, pentaprism instead of pentamirror, all the additional AF modes, weather sealing… really the list of differences is still pretty great.

I agree there isn’t room for a 60D in there. ‘Who cares’ as far as I’m concerned. I just wish the T2i had been improved ergonomically.

I don’t think the 7D will be $1200 any time soon. But I could see $1400 by the 2010 holidays.

I just don’t think Canon is going to make a 3D. I think it will be a 5D3 and Canon will keep the 5D2 current for an extra year.

Canon missed the chance to create what people wanted in a mythical 3D when they made the 1D4 with a 1.3 cropped H sensor again instead of a full frame sensor.

  • Totally missed it here, guy. Only the 18 meg sensor is one thing wanted. All the rest is still missing. 60d has to come to the rescue.

  • Here’s my incredibly useful contribution to the discussion: it will be called the 55D — not the 60D — in keeping with XXXD / XXD naming convention.

Has kind of a ring to it, donchathink?

  • A $400-$500 price drop. Not likely.

At least not any time soon. In which case a lot of people who are waiting for a 60D will probably get impatient and buy something else.

With the current $800 price difference, there’s definitely room for a 60D.

  • I don’t see Canon ever replacing those lenses. They work well enough and if people want an upgrade route, they buy into the L series. Replacing those lenses would easily double or triple their msrp. Which would effectively push up L lens alternatives even higher.

  • plenty of room

    better body with some weathersealing

mote crosstype focus points lens ajustments 5/6ish fps (notice how its right in between…)

    better viewfinder

  • the last one can be a lot 5DmIII 1000D replacement 60D new series you never know till you see it.

  • A friend of mine mentioned that Cannon doesn’t\rarely uses the number 6 in their model line up. Has anyone heard this as well?

    Regards

    Reza

  • ehmm NO they went from 10d to 20d to 30d to 40d to 50d how on earth would a 55d make sense…

  • if they ”upgrade” like they did with the 100 mm macro all that will be better is there profir these prices are crazy.

  • The same rumors percolated the intrrwebz for years on the number 4. Several Asian cultures do consider it unlucky, but I don’t know anything about 6.

  • We know there is a camera right around the corner yet you still believe it WON’T be the 60D??

BTW, the 7D is not $1200, its $1600. So there is plenty of room for the 60D.

The 60D will have the same features as the 7D, minus the 100% viewfinder, weather sealing and 8fps.

  • Please let it be a Full-frame under 21mp!
Can we get something in the 16mp range in full frame? It would surely be a high ISO KING!

  • there is 60D, it will became a 5D little brother, Entry Level FF DSLR of canon, it will incorporate the old 5D 12MP sensor(tweak, as public request), new 11 point AF, smaller body than 5D but larger than 7D, 5.3FPS, digic 4, price at $1900 US to compete directly with Sony A850, it will have be video and ISO same as 550D. no built in wireless flash commander. announce date March 10, 2010. that’s all for now..

  • many will ask, how about the price gap of 7D and 550D? 7d will drop price to $1400 US. why is it 60D not XD? because it’s not pro camera, it’s an entry level FF camera. 5D MK III will also release at 3Q this year, a FF 7D as Many suggested. i don’t know if that guy above knows something, he almost guess the mark down of 7D.

  • False, Canon wants you to pay $900,- dollars extra.

Here in europe the gap between 7D and 550D is about $500 euros which is very reasonable given the differences in features.

I see it as impossible to put another model in between for this moment. That camera would come too close to the 7D.

Canon wants to 50D owners to upgrade, not to stay at the same model line.

  • That’s exactly why the 60D won’t see the daylight.
Forget your 60D, or upgrade to 7D because the 7D is your 60D.

But if you keep waiting for your 60D, the 7D2 will be just around the corner…

  • Forget it.
Canon can’t sell in basic the same camera as the original 5D.

Otherwise they would could have come out with a 1DsMK II as 5D MKII. Canon didn’t and they won’t do it with the 60D.

  • You will keep waiting for some time to come then….

I would say if you want the things you want.
The 7D is already out for nearly 6 month.

  • 500EUR gap? i think that gap varies quite alot.. here in norway the 7D is still twice as much as the expected 550D price (and that’s when the 7D is “on sale”) and the 7D started out almost 3x more expensive., and the 550D will propably drop as well). -so there’s plenty of room for another model in between.. If canon wants people to upgrade to another line, then what about owners of previous xxxD’s? I’m not switching my 450D with the 550D as it doesnt tempt me at all, but jumping up to 7D would be a major overkill so for now canon aint getting my money and thats not what they want is it?

  • s’ok – ok, i got back to you – who/what defines a pro body? a 1D MKII is lighter than a 7D with the grip.

  • Why would Canon not be able to sell a 12 MP FF with some new technology? I would seriously consider that one, including the extra lenses I have to buy to replace my EF-S 17-55 and 10-22.

Think of it. Many x0D owners would like to have a FF for landscape, portrait and macro, but are not willing to spend that much money. If a cheaper FF with high IQ would be an option, the extra lenses could be sold too.

  • No, an “Olympic photographer” known to his cousin’s buddy. It’s not just a rumour, this is an Olympic photographer we’re talking about. (And I didn’t even know that photography was an Olympic sport. Has this guy won any medals?)

  • Maybe a 55D, a 550D in a xxD body.

xxxD body is just to small.

But it’s more likely the new xxxxD. :-(

  • The 60D could be digic-V based? Bringing a fast contrast-detect AF (shared with the EVIL) and continuous AF during video recording (like GH1).

I hope so, otherwise I’ll have to buy a T2i, and forget shallow videos, or expect for D90 successor…

  • does anyone actually like/use the camera they have. my 5dmkii was a massive upgrade from my 5d. I love it. I love it because I actually print large prints. it’s great. and canon threw a movie mode in my camera for me. rad!!!! then they gave me manual control over it. all just bonus. shooting film I would max at 1600 iso. now I have 56000????? with cs4 I can clean it up to make little 4×6 prints if I want. that’s great. if I sat and compared it to every camera by every maker I’m sure I would find something I wanted…..but what good would that do me

  • One thing you can be sure of is that there is a bigger chance of the Pope falling pregnant (with all due respect) than Canon listening to the consumers.

  • OK, I’ll wait. I wasn’t planning on buying anything until the middle to end of March anyway. However, the 5DMkIII looks MUCH more promising. I hope I’m not going to feel like a fool for listening to you.
