EOS 60D
A battery charger claiming to charge a battery for a 60D has appeared at Best Buy. It could be the D60, or just a misprint.
7D Ship Dates
Best Buy expects first shipment of the 7D, G11 and S90 on October, 11, 2009.

Rebel XS/1000D
The Rebel XS has been removed from the Vistek web site.
A local store has had the camera on “eternal backorder”.
The camera is still appearing on Canon price lists in the US and Canada.
EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS
Canon Canada recently started instant rebates on select lenses. The 70-200 f/2.8L IS was originally part of the rebate program and has since been removed in favor of the 70-200 f/4L IS.
If you see any current Canon literature on the rebate program (I can’t find it on the web), you’ll see the 70-200 f/2.8L IS still appears on some of the literature in background images and the image for the 70-200 f/4L IS is different than the rest of the lenses on the rebate amount lines.
Canon Canada late to know something? Wouldn’t be the first time.
I’ll post pics of this tomorrow, I don’t have the literature handy.

hmmm… for Best Buy, the 7D is a compact camera… and this is the same Best Buy with the wrong pricing about a month ago. I’ll pass on their accuracy and will hope for a late Sept release

has there ever been a season when canon made 3 separate camera announcements (on 3 different days)?! i cant think of any, it is either 1 or 2 announcement days per season, and this season we already had 2 days, one when G11 and other compacts were announced , the other when 7D become official. wait for CES 7-Jan-2010 or PMA 21-Feb-2010.. and i can tell you, there will be no 1D mk IV nor 60D, 7D is meant to replace both, when it gets old Canon will launch 7D2 and sell 7D cheaper (side by side no discontinuation). the 5D3 and 1Ds5 may very well switch to 1.6x because everybody was pleased that 7D can take EF-S lenses.
No “chipped” battery it appears.

I would say its much more sensible to say the 7D is the little brother of the 1D line and the 5D line is the little brother of the 1Ds line. Convenient cameras but by no means replacements.

I read this site for news, rumours and thoughts on Canon products, not endless banter back and forth about direct print buttons and very aggressive responses to someone’s opinions. If that’s the entertainment you like then fair enough, use the forums, that’s why they are there, this site is for news though so stop clogging it up with triviality.
If censorship is required to strip the BS back so genuinely interested browsers can get the information they want than I agree with it.
You may also find that what is being censored are actually fascist comments by the minority, you will also find that is what the world went to war against, not censorship.
There is nothing funny about the most illustrious object of desire. The direct print button is a serious matter.

For the sake of the discussion I will reply even though its against what I think this site is for.
My comments pertaining to WWII were in response to comments that were made stating we went to war to irradiate censorship. this isn’t the case, we went to war to protect the individual right to opinion and choice.
A lot of the comments thrown around on this site are aggressively attacking someone’s opinions, likes or dislikes to a particular specification. These are the comments I am labelling fascist. Just because you do not see the value in 18mp on a APS-C camera (for example) does not give you the right to attack an individual who holds a different view point.
I always enjoyed reading other peoples views and ideas on camera specifications but when the comments and replies turn to personal attacks the lost all value and creditability. They are usually spouted by individuals who are very insecure in their beliefs.
I want a return to open conversation about camera specifications and suchlike, not playground rants from uninformed children.
The Rebel XS/1000D is discountinued. The biggest sjop here in europe (Media-Saturn Holding) sais it. They cant order them.

I am confused though why the post I attempted yesterday appears to have been censored? It wasnt any more harsh or off topic than this post? Perhaps I was attempting to post when they where still figuring out how to enforce the censor?

Finally I was in Best Buy over the weekend and they had the 5D for $1399. This is Canons answer to a FF under 2K, in fact it is WAY under.
I have certain keywords set from old issues that I have removed. That’s why they’ve been moderated. I usually approve the good comments.
There is also anti-spam in WordPress that sometimes marks legit comments as spam.
I have updated the moderation trigger words. Some stuff will still get held for my approval. Just the nature of it.

i bought a 5dmk2 and have the problem of not finding a proper lens to use it
i got the 70-200 4 IS and 100mm macro they are sharp as it can get, but what with the range below 70? i need a 24-70 and a 16-24 at least but there is nothing sharp enough on the market…
The charger says that it supports the 1D camera… guess that goes to show it’s accuracy?
are you sure you’re looking at Canon lenses? firstly, there is no 16-24. there is, however:
16-35 L II
17-40 L
24-70 L
these are top flight lenses, design for and used by professionals around the world.
somehow it’s not sharp enough for you?

pls take a look at nikon’s 14-24 and 24-70, they beat the cr@p out of canon’s 16-35 and 24-70, and yes, the 14-40 is a good deal, but, neither too shiny. Canon’s wide angel lineup just a joke in front of nikon’s. They definitely need an upgrade.
That’s the problem with public blog comment fields, anyone can write on them. If you want MOAR serious discussions you might try a member based forum like canonrumorsforums that are heavily moderated.

yes nikon’s lenses are good. however, he states he just bought a 5DMkII; I’m assuming he’s not planning on selling it immediately.
my point is, how are these lenses not sharp enough for you? are you trying to cut steaks with these lenses? are you trying to focus laser death-rays through them? what are you doing that these are not good enough? because it must not be photography
That’s just not true. I use the 24-70 L, 16-35 L and 17-40 L on the 5D2 and 1Ds3 often and they are excellent. Specnazis are always going to complain.

ultra-wide angle lenses always will have problems with corner softness. that’s a fact of life and photography, simply because that’s the physics of light and glass.
you can’t whine and moan about the problems with Canon glass when the glass is doing the best it physically can.
if you have a 5DMkII, there’s not reason you can’t stop down to f/11 or more to get sharpenss; what you lose in diffraction is minor compared to what you gain in lens sharpness and deep DOF.
you can either mope about how your ultra-wide doesn’t live up to your own artifically exaggerated standards, or you can go and shoot some photos that will look excellent despite what you convince yourself
you can also turn on the peripheral illumination correction in the camera

Indeed. Since I can’t afford the Canon glass, I use Tokina’s 11-16 f/2.8. It is excellent, though only on APS-C.
I think there should be guidelines on what can be posted and what can not, if the moderation is going to be as is now. I looked on the main page and couldn’t find any such guidelines. I fear that I may need to be deadly serious if I want to avoid problems with the moderation here (which i don like either). The nature of the site itself means that it can’t be too serious. Personal attacks are certainly a red line, but i got posts deleted yester just for leveling some criticism?! Criticism ≠personal attack in my dictionary or not?!!! All the popular sites on the internet are characterized by lack of or very light-handed moderation. It is up to Canonrumors to decide whether they wnat to be popular or just another boring horing site.

Hey I’ve owned Sigma and Tamron glass too over the years Lots of good stuff out there.
possibly will never be replaced or will take unusually long time to be replaced. the reason is it gets very little attention and that’s because it doesn’t have anything special to it (no swivel LCD for example). even the price when it was introduced was not suffeciently cheaper than the 450D, not sure about current price compared to 500D. but certainly the most nonsignifica eos camera ever made, a camera that was added to the lineup as an afterthought. it is said that the designer conceived it while he was setting on the toilet seat, and now canon has to flush it.
