Slow
Times are pretty slow for Canon info at the moment. All the attention appears to be focused on what Nikon is about to do.
Nikon D5000
Apparently it will have an articulating screen, use the D300/D90 12mp sensor and have a new type of on camera flash. You should be able to bounce it. There's no word on whether or not the camera will have movie mode.
D400?
Not this time around.
D4
Nope.
I was eager to see if they'd launch a medium format system or a digital rangefinder with an F mount as has been rumored in the past. Not the year for that stuff I suppose.

Ritz Camera Bankruptcy
Apparently Ritz Camera Interactive (The Web Site) is a different company than Ritz Camera (The retail stores). The web site is not part of the bankruptcy proceedings.
More at [PB]
The day Ritz filed for bankruptcy they approved my affiliate application. I found that kind of funny. Now I know the companies are different and will go ahead and use their affiliate program. There are a lot of Ritz fans out there! They also seem to get new stuff before a lot of other places.
5D Mark II Availability
If you're Canadian, I know where you can get a new 5D Mark II body in Ontario. There doesn't seem to be many around. Email me if you want the info, I get no commission on this one.
Buying through CR
Thanks to everyone that uses the links to buy stuff through Canon Rumors affiliates. It's generating a decent income. I promise you I'm not going to horde all the money generated, some is going to be going back to the community. Stay tuned for a contest coming up for a lovely piece of Canon equipment.
Canon USA is a NY Yankees Fan
………. now if only some of their cameras used steroids! There'd be a lot of happy campers!
Canon Rumors is Hiring
I'm looking for a technically inclined person to write tech articles about camera technology. I would require one article per calendar month. The articles could be predictive or factual, that would be up to the writer. The right person would have to be able to write something that would have me confused within 3 paragraphs, then I know it's good.
Got what it takes?

Canon, listen up! It is possible to upgrade even the pop up flash on your DSLRs, like maybe with…..oh, I don’t know maybe WIRELESS COMMANDER MODE!! I guess I’m kidding myself for a bounceable one!
CANON, did you read that? It said, “ARTICULATING SCREEN!!!!” I feel like Grover with the “Monster at the End of This Book.” What did that say? What did that say? Did it say that Nikon was introducing a DSLR with an articulating screen? That’d make Canon, uh, the ONLY company without one. Sony has one. Olympus has them. Nikon will have them. Why is it that with some trends, Canon always comes in last?
Hey Fred, on an entry level camera to boot…..just kick us while we’re down why don’t you!!!
By the way Canon, please NO MORE MEGAPIXELS! Pretty soon I’m going to have to process my pics on my wide screen TV!
Your CanonRumors, why are you even speculating on what Nikon is or isn’t going to do…..

(D400?
Not this time around.)
Well since a Manual/Book is do out in a few months which now has an ISBN to it’s publication, we know the D400 is a for sure product release, unlike Canon’s Rebel 500 that your source told you and got a C3 rating and now has turned out to be Vapor Hardware for now.
At least Nikon is releasing a D400 for sure in the next few months.

The Nikon D5000 is rumored to be a entra level Camera. I wonder if it will have the 30mm DX lens included. I expect that Nikon is planning to use the lens, which is much less expensive to produce than a zoom as part of a low cost “Canon Killer” kit.
I didn’t speculate anything about Nikon, I passed on info and a link.
I stand by the 500D and I doubt we’ll see a D400 before it. We saw books for the 5D Mark II 8 months before the camera appeared.
500D will arrive soonish.
Is there any news regarding a replacement for the EF 50 1.4?
While there have been problems with the availability of many Canon lenses recently, it is only this lens that has consistently been out of stock at virtually any retailer here in Germany (aside from a few asking insane prices) for months now. That, and given that it does not compare too favorably against the 50 primes of any of the other system manufactures are all good reasons to expect something in that department.
Right now, I am moments away from pulling the trigger on the Sigma 50 1.4, but if something new in that range was coming from Canon, I might as well wait, with the endless rambling about focus issues with the Sigma (well, with ANY Sigma…).
Sounds like nikon has the edge in R&D. They are really making strides and bold features with their cameras. All canon does is offer more mp.
5d2 was my first dslr, and i got a full set of lenses for it. I kinda have buyers remorse right now..
>>Times are pretty slow for Canon info at the moment. All the attention appears to be focused on what Nikon is about to do.< the ormat that is most of the time the biggest entry level buyers print or get printed.
Most of the time a P6000 or a G10 would do the same job at a fraction of the cost – entry level DSLRs are simply for a good feeling of the users but a P&S would basically do the same (except the wide and and the ultra tele and of corse sports and action)
Having said that – I am completely happy with the 5D II and the lenses I got from Canon – there is simply no equivalent at Nikon – the 70-200 f/2.8 is crap on full frame, there is no affordable ff with high resolution and there are no tilt and shift lenses that can rotate the axes between tilt and shift (a very huge disadvantage) These lenses have been in R&D for surely more than 2 years – so Canon is absolutely doing the right thing and invests in long term value of the brand.
All for sure my personal opinion as a recent switcher from Nikon to Canon 5D II

So you want to be confused? Why don’t you try this thread on DPR for a start:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=31105804
There – I think – you should find what or whom you’re searching for … ;o)
Your TV set has more pixels than your PC monitor? You should really re-think your equipment…
<<<<>>>>>
The book is not going to come out before the D400 anymore than there was a book on streets long before the Mark II was out.
I will hold you to it that a 500D is “soonish” to be out. However if you think it will be out before July which is the latest the D400 will be released, I will be amazed.

i do that already.. 1920×1080 at 40″, it’s the best screen in the house.
That’s an expensive first dslr! I think 1080p video is a bold feature.
Both companies’ lines have benefits and disadvantages. Canon has better high ISO IQ and color reproduction. Granted you can fix some of this in post.
A few things to watch for on the 5D2: when making small print/web output from RAWs you have to sharpen way more than you’d expect to (assumed because of the high MP). Also try shooting twice as fast as you’d need when hand-held. I notice blur a lot more on this camera than with lower MP.
canon: update the 50 1.4 and the 35 2.0, and take sales back from sigma.
pleez.
I don’t agree with the Canon having better high ISO IQ. Have you looked at DXO Mark? Canon used to blow Nikon out of the water in that area, but times have changed.
I don’t care too much about any “articulating screen”. What am I going to do with it? I have been playing with my new 5D-II for more than a month. Totally LOVE IT! Don’t read too much into DXOmark site’s rating. It is very misleading. Comparing my D700 and 5D-II, I will definitely rank 5D-II on top of the D700. The benefit of 21MP over 12MP is dramatic. Full Frame + ~21Mp (don’t increase it) is a perfect spot. Improve the ISO noise will be a good thing to do. But for now I am happy as it is.
The only thing piss me off is that I cannot buy an extra LP-E6 battery. No one has any stock for it! I do not know what are the morons in Canon Sales are thinking? Forcing users to buy the battery grip instead?
Finally a contest that I’ll be eligible to enter! :D
Looked over images at DPR and also compared to my own. It’s somewhat subjective, and yes Canon once had a much bigger edge.
I’d like for a articulating screen for my 5D II, it would allow me to frame very low hand held shots, or ones with the camera up high, insteading of just point and hope!
I find the DXOmark site ratings to be the best available information about the sensor. All the sensors are rated exactly the same way, so as much of the variable as is possible is taken out. Their rating does not include a lens, or raw processing software. Any in camera processing of the raw file will be included, but that is usually minimal.
The lens used, and the RAW software, and the skill of the post processing person can have a huge impact on the final image. DXO only compares the sensors with each other.
LOL @ at this site saying, “oh noes! I can’t find a 5d mk ii anyplace!”
Henry’s has almost plenty of them readily availabe.
Vistek on Bank Street in Ottawa had 5D mkIIs last week.
Hey guys, I went to circuit city today, they are liquidating their entire store. I just picked up a 5D at 70% off!! I got it for around 450 new. They also had some 40D’s anyway you guys should stop by if you get a chance.
I am particularly pleased to hear that you are actually making some money from this site. There are many sites out there (e.g. twitter, youtube) that actually get a lot of attention, but in fact they just burn lots of money.
CR has become a valuable source of information to me, and now I am more confident than evere that it is here to stay.
Keep up the great work!

PS: We do not have any Kangaroos in Austria.
D5000 is coming ,so what about Canon
Forget about upgraded cameras till 2011 (exception will be SONY – lots of new stuff and start of price competition with Canon especially in PS realm, which will also hurt Nikon’s sales and margins badly). Survival will be the name of the game for this year and next. By 2011 only Canon will be left to compete with Sony as Japanese Camera manufacturers. Nikon does not have the funds or depth that Canon does and will be absorbed by Canon (finally will be able to get Nikon designed AF glass on Canon DSLRs). Sony will absorb Hoya, Cosina and Leica’s Camera division. Panasonic will no longer produce digital cameras by 2011.
Japanese exports dropped by over 50% in Jan. Now this news article further shows the deterioration of the camera market. Read and weep:
Flash memory company Spansion files for bankruptcy
Struggling flash memory maker Spansion Inc. and its U.S. subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday, in an effort to restructure $625 million worth of debt as the company continues to explore a possible sale or other alternatives.
The news comes a week after Spansion, one of the world’s largest makers of chips used in digital cameras, cell phones and high-definition televisions, said it would slash its global work force by 35 percent, or 3,000 employees.
Demand for flash and chip-based memory is on the decline as sales of electronics which use Spansion’s chips dip amid the weak global economy.

This model is just as good but I don’t see any major improvements.
