The annual Black Friday feeding frenzy is here. I’m not one to innundate the site with a hundred posts of random deals, I think the world is getting enough of that right now from most other places.
I figured one post of a few things that I like and have already taken advantage of should suffice.
We also suggest that you check out our favourite retail partners to see their Black Friday Offerings.
We will keep an eye on the Canon USA Refurbished Gear sale.
Software
I’m very particular about promoting software, I have to use it and I have to like it before it’ll appear on the site.
One of my favourite software developers is DXO. I love PureRAW 5 and PhotoLab 9.2. I think DXO makes the best software if you want to get out from under Adobe’s thumb.
Currently, you can save up to 50% off of all of their software. As an added bonus, you get another 5% off when you use the coupon code below.

Memory Cards
I don’t have any brand loyalty when it comes to memory cards. I use cards from Delkin Devices, Lexar, Pergear and OWC. The only thing that I like is having matching memory cards in the EOS R1. Does it make a difference? No idea, but it seems like the prudent thing to do.
I have noticed that the discounts this year aren’t as big as they have been in the past. You can draw your own conclusions.

This time of year is a great time to buy smaller capacity memory cards just to have some redundancy if things do go wrong in the field. I don’t think there’s a need in having hundreds of dollars in backup memory cards, but having some $60 cards around? That can be a good idea.
If you do want larger capacity backups, Pergear is a good value brand.
Full Disclosure: I have received free memory cards from both Pergear and Delkin Devices.

Camera Bags
As we all know, dedicated camera bags of good quality come with a price tag that can feel painful at the best of times. This is probably the best time of year to take a peak at the offerings if you’re in the market for a new bag.
My two favourite brands are Shimoda Designs and Gura Gear, but there is no way that I could have used all that is out there. I guess the best thing to say about each brand? I have no desire to ever shop for a bag again unless there is a dire need to.
Below are some deals on the most popular bags at B&H Photo that I can vouch for.
- Shimoda Designs Urban Explore Backpack 20L $199 (Reg $279)
- Shimoda Designs Urban Explore Backpack 25L $229 (Reg $319)
- Shimoda Designs Urban Explore Backpack 30L $271 (Reg $339)
- Shimoda Designs Action X40 V2 Backpack 40L $271 (Reg $339)
- Gura Gear Kiboko 2.0 Backpack 22L $281 (Reg $374)
- Gura Gear Kiboko 2.0 Backpack 30L $356 (Reg $474)
- Gura Gear Chobe Everyday Carry 2.0 Compact Bag $199 (Reg $254)
- Gura Gear Chobe Everyday Carry 2.0 Large Bag $251 (Reg $334)
Cool Things: UGREEN
One of my favourite brands for chargers, batteries and cables is UGREEN, I have been buying them exclusively for years and they have never let me down. I have also been using a 2-Bay UGREEN NAS for an emby media server and I have been very happy with it.

UGREEN currently has savings on pretty much everything that they make. If you’re in the market for anything that they may be offering, I think that you’ll be happy with the brand. UGREEN has never given me anything for free, so no shilling here.
Cool Things: HOTO Tools
Are Hoto Tools related directly to photography and whatnot? No. Do they make cool tools? Yes!
I got into this brand a couple of years ago when I saw some guy on YouTube using a cool electric screw driver while building a PC. I have larger hands and this wonderful magnetic bit driver made things easier getting to the hard to reach areas without having to turn my hand with a regular screwdriver. Maybe a first world problem, but it was still a problem. I also found that the driver had the perfect out of the box torque setting. I like consistent tightness across an E-ATX motherboard.

From there I picked up their hand blower/vacuum, which is great for cleaning computer fans in your gaming rig, getting a ltitle extra life out of air filters and general clean up of other things that dust can build up in.
The portable air compressor was next and it has been a great little tool. The biggest bonus is I never have to go to the gas station and be annoyed by the pay to play air compressors there. It’s also great in your bike bag (They do have a smaller one) or if you have a basketball playing kid that has a dozen different basketballs that you have to keep perfectly inflated.
Our Retail Partners
I have obviously built a lot of relationships with retail partners around a lot of planet over the years, but I like to focus on the people that I have running conversations with and I’m confident in that you will get great service.
A retailer can’t control you receving product that has problems, but they can control how its dealt with.

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving America, I hope everyone makes it the best weekend that they can.
Always rememeber kids, unless you’re trying to make a funny video (I love them), putting a frozen turkey into a heated turkey fryer can be quite the show. Play Safe!
