Preorders have barely opened after Canon's Asia announcement of the PowerShot V1. But true to form, Canon has already said, “Sorry, we've received more orders than we can handle.”
Curiously, Canon also mentioned that the PowerShot G7x Mark III and the SX740HS were suspended from production. I didn't even know production was still happening on those cameras, so I presume we'll never see them again.
Global Rollout Affected?
Of course, my concern is that if Canon is already experiencing shortages, will they still go ahead with the global rollout that we've heard was scheduled for April? You'd think Canon would want to serve Asia before worrying about global shipments. It could also be that this camera will never get out of simply an Asia rollout as well. We hope this not the case.
But since Canon never answers our calls, we'll have to wait and see if we hear anything.
Machine Translations Can be Wrong
We had an actual Japanese translator translate the text for us because machine translations are very bad at this, for humorous reasons. If you machine the statement from Canon, the common statement will say, “We plan to ship the products one by one, but delivery may take longer than usual.” But that's not what it is. Interestingly, Bing Translate now gets this more accurately than Google Translate.
Canon's Apology
Canon once again apologizes for not having enough cameras to handle the demand. I'm not sure how they continue to do this. I am now assuming that, unlike in past times, they don't make any in advance. Or is this simply a marketing message stating, “Hey, Look! We're popular.”
Canon states;
Thank you for your continued patronage of Canon products.
We are currently receiving more orders than expected for the following products, which is causing delays in delivery. We sincerely apologize to our customers and business partners for the inconvenience caused. We would like to apologize again for keeping our eagerly awaiting customers waiting for these products. We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable supply of products so that we can deliver them as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding.
The non-machine translated version of the table is shown below.
| Product name (model number) | Availability |
|---|---|
| PowerShot V1 | The shipment is scheduled accordingly, however it may take extra lead time than normal. |
| PowerShot G7X Mark III | The shipment is scheduled accordingly, but we are currently suspending orders. We will inform you of the resumption of orders and delivery dates as soon as we have a clear idea of when the products will be shipped. |
| PowerShot SX740HS | The shipment is scheduled accordingly, but we are currently suspending orders. We will inform you of the resumption of orders and delivery dates as soon as we have a clear idea of when the products will be shipped. |

thanks, I'll add that.
this is the strangest release ever, having to go to multiple canon sites to yank what I can find there.
it could have been, but i still thought we had more information at the time. The M3 was like that too, Asia only.
I'm rather sad that this wont' be in Vietnam, since I'm there in April and May.
More details now on video recording times. before anyone jumps off a cliff, i presume those are with thresholds set to normal.
After a quick comparison, I'm personally more drawn to getting a R8 (maybe with the 28mm pancake) as a lightweight option, since it is not that much heavier and gives me the flexibility to go with different set ups.
There is not a word yet on the German websites (canon or camera retailers) so far.
it's a solid camera for sure given the size of it.
the heat management most likely contributed a lot to the size.
also 15 fps mechanical shutter is no joke either.
There is a USB-C port, but no word on if it's a charging port. if it can't charge the camera, then I'm not sure it would release in Europe
If and only if the battery can be charged in camera, it has to happen using USB-C
could also be a factor of heat as well.
An USB-C port without charging-ability is definitely allowed in EU.
It is to make one charger (and cable) rule all direct chargeable devices.
Looks really oriented to the 4K video.
