Articulating screen should be on T1i successor. Hopefully. I don’t care about movie mode, give me an articulated screen!!!!!
12mpx + Digic IV = good ISO-performance
add a better fps to the bundle and ill buy one for my little sister!
honestly why would this little cam have a 1080p mode with a usable frame rate when it’s big bro, the T1i, only does 1080p at 20 fps (a wholly ridiculous spec)?
Nah, I think the fps is ok for a beginner-camera.
Low price is more important than fps :P
¿May have sensor shift stabilization?

Becouse it is newer. The 550D next April will have 1080p with 24/25/30/50/60fps. Then some people say why it has better video-mode than 5D MarkII and stuff…
New technology is coming and going…
me 2 feels that this rumor will NOT turn out to be true, but i see it’s given a CR2, so hopefully Mr or Miss canonrumors knows better than me an you.. strange thing is when the new blog of this site was started (Jan 2008) every rumour had its CR rating in the title, nowadays however Mrs Canon R leaves us lost in most cases, this rumors is treated specially like the good old days.
Sounds OK-ish, hope it will have a gadget or two thrown in to make a good deal. I really dislike the name “1500”?! Sounds real silly.
¿¿¿???
Do you like “Rebel T1” better?
Nikon’s going to do it, so why not Canon too?
I don’t think so. If we are talking about a Rebel T1/1500D, it has to be priced lower than the T1i.
The 1000D is the Rebel XS
The T1i is 500D
Since the 1000D/XS is already cheaper than the 500D/T1i, the new 1500D/T1 will definitely be cheaper than the 500D/T1i….Have I confused you more?
Yup. It should have been 1005D.
does that mean that the T1i should be receiving 30fps in 1080? Because that’d suck if the cheaper one had it and the more expensive on didn’t!
where did you hear that? about nikon? Nikon rep has said nothing of the sort
yes it sucks just like it sucks that the 7 has better af than the 5 and better video also but if you always play the game of waiting then you will never own a camera…
…interesting web page….
Ya, but if you already have “a” camera and you dont “need” a specific feature it is a bit of a trick trying to decide when is the best point to upgrade.
Of course they haven’t, they won’t say anything until launch.
That said, a patent doesn’t prove they’re going to do it either.
The Rebel name has always amused me. You Americans!
Most important thing IMO is to avoid paying the ‘tax’ of early adopters, unless you are a pro or a millionaire. This is also good to have concrete info about the product.
That is progress, especially on a new and rapidly improving feature.
P.S. There’s nothing about it that sucks, unless you’d prefer progress never to be made…
No, it doesn’t prove it. But Nikon doesn’t patent things to deny it to others; theirs are //generally// pretty tightly tied to product releases. I’d call it likely, but not certain.
I was in to Best Buy today and looked at the nikon D5000. That articulating screen is very handy for low or high shots. I can’t get down on my knees for a low shot, and being able to hold the camera high and see the composition is also useful.
I hope it comes to Canon DSLR’s soon, it blows away the anglefinder.
Video apparently sells cameras, but only a few dedicated souls actually use it effectively. The lack of usable autofocus really limits its spontaneous use to still scenes.
I do expect significantly better autofocus with Digic V, whenever it arrives, but still not the speed of a camcorder.
geez not another dang entry level camera…
well…..canon is a japanese company.
Is the T1 supposed to be a step above or below the T1i, and what’s the difference between them speculated to be?
You are correct, of course, albeit beside the point. The Rebel name is not used outside North America. It would strike me as strange if it was head office rather than Canon NA that decided on the Rebel name.
The Japanese have their own ridiculous name for the same series of cameras (Kiss), while the rest of the world gets a naming system that isn’t completely meaningless. Incremental numbers have a clear progression, whereas a semi-random assortment of letters attached to each new model is anything but clear.
I hope something like this does eventually appear in a Nikon, it might put a rocket up Canon (with the hopefully incorrect assumption that they’re not also researching their own version of the technology).
new source but cr2?
The processor is not an influential factor of ISO performance at all
Finally someone Said it. Thanks ;-)
60D please !
7D is to expansive and 500D has no mic-in ! So a cheaper 60D with 98% viewfinder, mic-in and HD movie mode would be correct.
NOW I see what the biggest announcement in Canon’s history is going to be! :)
If it was just in the camera arena then mirrorless micro 4/3rd would be my guess.
But with bigger sensors needed for quality – not smaller ones this would only be for entry level cameras.
Well, it is…
OMG! The 500D haz video and the 1Ds Maek III does not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike most rumors, this one doesn’t seem to be wishful-thinking type of rumor but that alone is not enough to rate as CR2.
The articulated screen is 10 times more useful than higher resolution screens or ‘bigger’ screens. If one is 6′ tall, then most of your pictures with a DSLR are from a vantage point 5’6″ off the ground. This is especially true of old, beat-up folks like myself who can’t crouch or lay down. With the articulated screen, you cal lay the camera near the ground and take either vertical or horizontal shots. You can reach over your head, up to 7 or 8 feet or higher with a monopod. I’ve got some “Point & Pray” shots I take with my 10-22mm at about the 12′ level held on the end of the monopod. Haven’t dropped it yet.
Keeps you guessin’ though! ;-)
“Proud to be a North American Rebel!” :-P
I’m with you – let’s hope against hope.
I’d love a Canon equivalent of the Panasonic G1/GH1 that can take EF and EFS lenses.
With no mirror, and a viewfinder as good as the G1, Canon would make a fortune out of me…with me buying the camera and some ‘L’ series lenses.
Of course what would make it a perfect camera would be to have phase detect rather than contrast AF, because somehow I don’t think any Canon lenses would do contrast detect AF very fast.
The camera will have a sensor shift stabilization but Mr-CanonRumors has removed that part of the rumor. He has some expensive IS lenses and doesn’t like the idea of everybody having all their lenses stabilized. This guy is evil, we ought to change him by a coup d’état or coup de site.
They could call it the MonkeyButt 1000 for all I care as long as it performs for the right $$$. Europeans have been and always will be more concerned with style over substance.
That’s a bit of a generalisation isn’t it?
That’s very much like me claiming that “Rebel” is representative of, and panders to, the paranoid psyche of the American people…
I also wonder why you think the style-obsessed would be more interested in something identified using numbers rather than words?
As far as I remember, Canon said that the 500D isn’t able to shoot FullHD @ 30fps because of hardware limitations (which I personally believe is not true).
So lets see what the 1500D will be able to – with the same digic.
550D with mic-in, FullHD@24/25/30fps please! I want a small camera body… ;)
Below. Just compare 1000D and 450D. Its the same with 1500D / 500D
yes it is

Actually it´s true. There are to less lines between sensor unit and processor. It isn´t a Digic problem.
Dude, you could use in-body IS and lens-IS dogether….
Many expensive lenses, they are not IS
Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO IS USM
Lol.
Most of these lenses have short focal lengths, and thus less in need of IS (despite the general idea that every lens should have IS, or it’s ‘wrong’), the other lenses are older, or special (TS-E with IS? That’d be weird).
Calling the 50 f/1.8 expensive is also a bit odd…
‘only’ 12MP? I think that if the megapixel war is fought somewhere, it’s at in cheapsumer department. They don’t really care about ISO until it’s too late, but want a camera that just has nice specs.
My guess :
15 MP, Digic4 and 1080p20 or Digic5 and 1080p30. (depends on whether they can pump out enough Digic5 chips for the masses). Oh, and add a swivel screen, fancy things FTW :(
CR3
Canon will settle on a digic 4.5 and 1080@25fps as a compromise. the camera will sell like cheap biscuits.
Thanks traitor
Tomorrow could be the day – 9/29 was announced earlier. I think we will see only the 1500D and no new 1 oder 3 model.
That’s true, as in it doesn’t affect RAW ISO performance at all. However, it does affect jpegs, for what it’s worth.
if there is any link between whats going to be announced tomorrow and this camera, then its the direct print button. it also may turn out to be just another false rumor or something not so exciting. not camera-related most probably anyway.
We were talking Christmas 2009, right?
I thought this was all about Christmas 2009, myself. Time is indeed running out, Crosstalk. I’ll hold my vigil until November 7, or so, then call it off. The only thing that keeps me hanging in there with a daily Google for ‘Canon T1 1500D’ is the fact that the Olympus E-600 (a slightly de-featured E-620 for the Christmas shopper) isn’t on the street yet either.
So then I am not the only one holding my breath for the announcement and doing daily google searches!
I’ve now received Christmas catalogues from a couple of photographic retailers in the UK. EOS1000D featuring in both. If the 1500D was going to be released in time for Christmas 09 I would thought they would have held off to the launch date.
Also, the Autumn UK cashback offer is only on the 450D and 500D – so no trying to shift remaining stocks of 1000D there.
Probably getting too late now for Christmas, I guess the next opportunity will be CES. Still googling daily though :-)
I just got a Rebel T1!!!!!

Many people have alos become fans of Paul Smith Shoes since they came into the market. I also one of them , I very like Paul Smith Wallets and <a Paul Smith Belts,It designs very good.
Forget the Canon and get a Pentax K-x…it blows away the T1i at a fraction of the cost.
how do you figure.. back to school
