Canon China has introduced a Jackie Chan Eye of the Dragon Edition of the Rebel T2i/550D.

Only 2010 cameras will be available, and cost around $1450 USD.

  • Surely the Jackie Chan edition is going to be some amazing new full-frame camera, with ISO 1.5million and 250 AF points that some unknown guy saw them using to shoot his latest film? (Because of course, the secret new video capabilities are going to kick RED’s a$$!!!!!!)

    What is wrong with Canon’s marketing department? I sure will stay AWAY from anything associated with Jackie Chan.

    His remarks on democracy and his public images in the past few years are very disappointing. He is not exactly an icon that anyone wants to be associated with.

  • As much as many may wonder about the thought behind the Canon’s (China) marketing department, most of us may not be able to get a hand on one of the 2010, let alone ordering one.

    Price-wise, at least the retail price, it’s not expensive at all.

    If I could order one, I would. Not for my own collection or usage, just to make some money out of it.

  • Yeah, I was in China last week, and saw a lot of ads. of Jackie Chan holding a 550D, didnt ask coz I was not at all interested in the camera.

    I honestly think this is totally stupid. I bought the 7D from China for 1420 USD!!! and I they even let me test it before buying for like 30 min using all my lenses in many different situations.

    So being in China, why pay 1450$ for a 550D when you can buy a 7D for the same price? even if it’s a Jackie Chan Edition.

  • And what kind of hypocracy, I mean democrazy do you enjoy? Last time I checked people in western cities particularly in the UK get arrested for taking pictures in towns and out about, that is not the case in China or indeed HK. Jackie was right about the province of Taiwan which is a political mess because of adapting to western democracy that gets in the way of progress. China jail or execute corrupt officials and greedy businessmen who breaks the law, but western countries award the corrupt and greedy with golden handshakes or promotion.

    Did you know in the UK the two major political parties sees a hung parliament as a disaster for the country because of indecisiveness and inability to implement policies to get through due to disagreements and much prefer a party with the mandate to govern.

  • There’s nothing wrong with a mandate to govern. The problems arise when the majority is so overwhelming that the government ends up with a mandate to dictate.

    Move to China and enjoy your freedom there, where they ‘execute corrupt officials’ and ‘greedy businessmen who breaks the law’ . Remember the melamine tainted milk? Only two scapegoats got executed. Few months ago, the milk product are making a comeback.

    Corrupt official, greedy businessmen and opinionated students are eliminated because they needed a harmony society, another way of removing political opponents.

    Either way, I enjoy my freedom in a western society.

    Did they do something to your head? Your brain seems to be washed.

    By the way: Taiwan is a sovereign nation, not just some province of the PRC.

  • I bet most of the 2010 show up on ebay and sell for twice or three times the original cost. 2010 is a very small number, and most will be privately sold and never available to the public.

  • actually it depends on who you ask. its not just propaganda, the CCP does see the regime in Taiwan as a relic of an unfinished civil war that was interrupted by the american ‘imperialists’ when the 7th fleet was assigned there during the Korean war.

    the lines are blurred and there isnt a real point debating sovereignty. after all, if you go way back, the borders of states shift all the time. even now.

    that said i like Taiwan. 仙草红茶拿铁!! woo favourite drink in the world. (its a latte with large blobs of grass jelly yum)

    We regard him as gutless, shortsighted, and reckless.

    The product indirectly does harm to the image of Canon to us.

    For your reference, these are a few among his well-known words:

    1. During a press conference (after being disclosed of an illegal affair with a HK model, Wu, who later gave birth to a baby girl) he said: “I just committed something that every guy in the whole world will do…”.

    2. “Taiwanese presidential election is a joke.”

    3. “Chinese need to be ruled.”

  • Actually 蟲 means insect. Though it’s often used for worm too. Like they use 老鼠 to mean rat and mouse (they don’t differentiate).

    3. Don’t know the context so no comment. Most likely that was the headline plastered all over Taiwan (without context) which means Taiwanese people are naive (no offense).

  • Oh the many, many, many chinese people I’ve talked to in Hong Kong (where I’ve lived for 10 years) and the fact that people here will pay more for a product that’s made in Japan rather than get the cheaper (identical) version that’s made in China (case in point the Nintendo Advance).

    Oh and the 100s of Chinese made CRAP products on sale in the markets here.

    Basically the FACT is Chinese made products are inferior unless the company that controls quality is from overseas. Just look at the cheap flash triggers (Yongnuo) they’re OK, but the build quality is certainly reflected in their price. Falconeyes too, I know it’s rubbish because I’ve used it (and had it fail). Sure it’s cheap, but it’s crap, you can’t escape it with wishful thinking. Cheap though…. ;)

    Taiwan is better though… (Asus rocks).

    Hong Kong can pull off some OK stuff (crocodile clothing) but even that’s made in Chinese these days (used to be made in Kwun Tong, where I live, but they moved the factory… I know because I asked someone who works in the old crocodile building).

    So no, not baseless at all.

  • I was actually commenting about the other guy, not the guy who said Taiwan is not part of China.

    I don’t really care if Taiwan is part of China or not. That’s up to the Taiwanese/Chinese people to work out.

    I do see a separate governmental system and the handful of Taiwanese people I’ve talked to don’t see Taiwan as part of China.

    Might change though.

  • 1. First, that thing happened in HK.

    Again, I’m not sure that’s illegal for a married guy to do that in HK. But for most part of the world, that’s immoral, esp. for a guy who spoke out loud shamelessly unless you regard Tiger’s deed “decent”.

  • 30, 40 years ago, Make in Japan is consider crap. Now there are consider very good quality product. May be in 20, 30 years time, make in china mean good quality product.

    Anyway, make in which country usually does not make the product crap… it’s all about QC and how much $$ the company willing to put in or paid the OEM manufacturer for the product. You want the lowest price, you usually get crap QC and the result is crap product. Basically, what you pay is what you get. Look at the toyota incident… cut too much cost.

    Just my 2cents.

  • I don’t mean this to be racist at all, but I’m kind of fascinated how in general Asians really like gold and Caucasians really like silver.

    My old boss has met Jackie a few times and has been to his house in Hong Kong for dinner etc.

    Apparently he is a really nice guy.

  • I am from Hong Kong. To be fair, he’s becoming more and more hated in Hong Kong, his roots, because of his childish & unresponsible behaviour in recent years.

  • Filmed the latest blockbuster? I’d wager this thing would be able to shoot in apple lossless straight to its triple sxs cards, edited on camera, use video RAW, shoot at least 500fps, go up to ISO 102 400, and take shock vibrations to withtstand the stunts.

  • That’s really not racist. China is just known for its production quality. As Sweden is known for its women. And Nigeria is known for its princes. And so on.

    Production on a scale as large as China is bound to export some bad eggs to the US, and hence where the reputation comes from. Chinese laws aren’t harsh in production regulation sector. It’s reality. Get over it.

    Trust me, the U.S. get the good stuff. The stuff you can buy in markets here makes the bad stuff from China you buy in the U.S. look totally first rate.

    To Tung, it might be the opinion of Shark’s. But it’s also the same opinion of “many” people from HK too. I didn’t do a statistics or am not referring to any survey so I couldn’t tell how many.

    But if you are a local Chinese in Asia, you could feel how people got annoyed by Chan’s comments on democracy.

  • Funny to see how small the 550D is in the hands ofMr. Chan. He is not the biggest Chineese with the biggest hands.

    A reason for me not to buy the 550D, JC version or just normal one.

  • M0r0n. Didn’t you see the quoatation marks. It only meant that Ken Watanabe was used as the model to promote the 7D, at least in Asia. If you saw the brochures and TVC ads you’d know how so much better that came off compared to this canal-green+$hit-brown 550D Jackie Chan Ed.

  • My point is a racist can have ___(insert nationality)___ friends or ___(insert nationality)___ wife, etc… Having those does not prove that you are a racist or not.

  • Till now China don’t face and admit their failure of aggressing Taiwan after WW2 so they keep saying it is part of them, that’s all.

    How about instead you work up something that actually focuses fast in low light, has the same low noise as the Nikon D700/D3, FULL FRAME!!, SHOOTS FAST (8 fps would be nice), has more than 9 focus points (which is near useless if you shoot below F2.0), and is PRICED around a D700.

    While there are those of us wedding and low light photographers out here waiting for a better rig, you put out some gimmick toy? I love Jackie Chan, but this is a slap in the face for those of us not happy with the 5D Mark II.

    The 5D Mark II is good and all, but bring it in low light and you’re having focusing issues. Low noise is good, but Nikon is KILLING US ALL AROUND RIGHT NOW!

    I’m really beginning to regret going the Canon route. Stop frustrating your patrons.

  • Well then, call it ‘China made’, not ‘Chinese made. There are millions of Chinese (by race) who are not born in China, pledge no allegiance to China, and have never been to China.

    “Canon suceeds over Nikon”, “i need more megapixels Nikon”, “if you don’t release a new dslr in the next 15 minutes i’ll switch to canon”, “i need a new fullframe cuz i’am a pro”, “i need this Even more because i am much more of à pro than you”, “i shoot myself and then my gear if they don’t show us new stuff which i am not gonna buy, eventually.” and so on so on so on

    All those are a bunch of whiners which can’t even tell the difference between a polaroid and a Bob-Ross-Picture.

  • I honestly don’t care what others are saying, I’m stating my opinion based on the unbiased field tests of these cameras performed against each other with full res images showing clear quality differences.

    Google the image/performance comparisons between the 5D Mark II and the D700/D3. Look at the specs of all three rigs.

    No one’s saying anything about being “more pro”. I couldn’t care a less about that. What I want is a camera that matches or exceeds the D700, priced competitively against the D700.

    I just buy a 550D grip cheaply from linkdelight which is a Chinese-made,I have to say some Chinese should be proud of for some people just like Jackie Chan rather than abuse
