BCN Retail dove into their annual results a bit more and summarized what the top-selling mirrorless cameras were of 2024. BCN Retail reports on the actual sales data of around 50-60% of all retail stores in Japan, so it's an excellent look at the Japanese market, which purchases the most cameras of any one country per capita.
Why is this important and relevant even when you are not in Japan? Because the camera manufacturers are predominantly in Japan, they pay attention to this market more than anywhere else. Also, what happens in Japan regarding trends usually ripples outwards from there.
Then there's the fact that no other country produces this much detailed aggregated sales data and allows the general public access.
For the second year in a row, the Sony ZV-E10 is Japan's most popular selling camera.

Sony took four positions in the top 10 versus Canon's 2. That amounts to a 29.9% share for Sony cameras versus an 18.3% share for Canon cameras when looking at the most popular models.
- Sony VLOGCAM ZV-E10 16%
- Canon EOS R50 11.6%
- Canon EOS R10 6.7%
- Sony A6400 5.8%
- Sony A7C II 4.9%
- Nikon Z30 4.3%
- Olympus PEN E-P7 3.9%
- Nikon Zfc 3.4%
- Sony ZV-E10 II 3.2%
- Lumix G1000 3.1%
Interestingly, Canon's two models are the least expensive cameras, as the Japanese and everyone else ignore the R100. Meanwhile, Sony's market share has a sprinkling of full-frame, prosumer APS-C, and their vlog lineup.

Sony seems to be hitting a product mix that is echoing with the Japanese consumer more than Canon is now. However, Canon places significant importance on the domestic market, so I would expect changes and new cameras to address this.
