The Canon EOS RV and Canon EOS R50 V May Be Two Different Cameras

As we all know, a leaked image revealed the existence of a Canon EOS RV. This brought about a lot of excitement and discussion. We could hear the EOS M faithful cheering at the direction we're going to see in the APS-C lineup.

We have reported about the existence of an EOS R50V and wondered aloud if this model name was in fact the EOS RV. If we go by what a terrific source is telling us, they may in fact be two different cameras.

What Could A Canon EOS R50 V Be?

We're told that it will inherit the same 24.2mp sensor that is currently in the EOS R50 and EOS R10. The body ergonomics would be very similar to what we have seen with the EOS RV. That means no flash or EVF.

It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities for Canon to hit two different price points with these new and smaller RF mount APS-C cameras. You need volume sales, and you need enthusiasts on board if you're going to make the APS-C lineup compelling for everyone.

Canon EOS R50

We think the Canon EOS RV may have active cooling, just by the large grill on the top of the camera that is not the microphone. Active cooling could be a feature that the lower priced camera would go without. IBIS could be another thing that would differentiate the pair of rumored cameras.

We don't have definitive specifications on either camera currently, we're just giving you some possibilities.

One thing that makes us happy? It's not called an EOS R100V.

Canon EOS RV With The 32.5mp Sensor?

One thing that could segment the cameras is the image sensor. I suggested, but am mostly hoping that Canon would bring the EOS R7 sensor to more cameras, it's very good and would be most welcomed for both photographers and videographers.

We're hoping we get a clearer picture soon.

We have talked to a couple of other sources, and they've nodded their heads about APS-C cameras to compete with the Sony ZV line, but they haven't been able or willing to tell us when to expect these cameras to be announced.

Update: AI Generated Image of the EOS R50 V

Just like the Canon PowerShot V1, we have been provided an AI mockup of what the EOS R50 V will look like. If you remember the AI images sent to use to represent the PowerShot V1, they were probably as close as they could have been.

AI Generated Mockup Of The Rumored Canon EOS R50 V

If we go by this mock-up compared to the leaked image of the EOS RV. It looks even smaller. That is a desire for a lot of buyers out there. As long as there are lenses to match these new cameras, Canon will have a couple of winners on their hands.

  1. I’m looking forward to all these smaller bodies!

    me too!

I hope they do a decent job with the specifications - I'd love to see the 32MP sensor in there, but I doubt it because it's video orientated.

So I suspect we'll just see the 24MP sensor - again.

An R10 with CLOG 3 and a cooling fan and no EVF would be perfect

Strangely the 32MP is still the fastest Canon has in crop format, reusing the 24MP would, again, mean no usable electronic shutter.
The leaf shutter in the V1 makes up for that, but the RV will most likely have a normal shutter.

Anyway, my R8 still has no real competition 🙂

  4. I hope this unergonomic brick frame inspired by Sony isn't gonna be Canon's new signature design

the more unergonomic, the more likely.

governing laws of the universe or something.

  5. Damn, i hate the look of the current RF-S lenses with the small diameter and big lens mount. This new lens looks much better already.
Its also ugly in this silver-black combination. Just make it all silver or all black.

  6. This must have been behind the curtain at CP+, weird to see the security attachment.

I hope to have it specced out today, but it is the weekend.

My guess? 32mp R7 sensor (V1 probably is too, just smaller). Paying 7 to 1!

  7. No EVF -> no purchase.
But the bezel on the back looks like an eyepiece.

The absence of an EVF is the biggest drawback on C70, C80, C400.
And it killed my nerve on EOS M and M3.

  8. So a whole new lineup of "RV"power zoom lenses? Interesting. The picture looks a bit thick. But something to replace my M6II is something I would keep my eye on. But given the build, it is reminding me much more of the smaller cinema bodies. I am wondering how far skewed to that direction it will be (spoken as a primary stills photographer).

The Canon M6m2 was a very popular camera. Mine still traveled with me until I purchased the Panasonic S9 to replace it. Now I can pair the S9 with this camera or alternate.

Exaxtly what I've been waiting for. Do not want or need an EVF built into the camera. If Canon offers an attachment EVF, that would be ok. I never use mine.

Same here. But I suppose this one won't be my "small body".

    No EVF -> no purchase.
For such a cam I want an attachable one. Without that, I'm out.

Also, the elaborated ergonomics are not mine.
I can understand the purpose of that power zoom lever on the shutter button.
And I hope that those working with it will like it.
But I prefer the smooth shutter button that we have with most EOS cameras.
That was one reason why I didn't like the EOS M models and other brands either.
    But that's just me.

I'm not sure how the ergonomics would "work" we haven't seen enough of it, but the shutter button look pretty square on the body too.

looks very much like a powershot.

maybe it's a PowerShot EOS RV

stranger things have happened in Canon-Land.
