Viltrox announced some new lenses, including one of their 2024 lenses, which will now be available on the Nikon Z mount. They have announced the AF 35mm F1.2 LAB FE, AF 85mm F1.4 Pro FE, and AF 50mm F2.0 Air lenses. They have also announced that the Viltrx AF 135mm F1.8 LAB is now available for the Nikon Z mount.

None of these lenses are available yet for the Canon RF mount, most likely because autofocus adapts to the RF mount, and Canon wants some level of control over that. We hope that Canon and Viltrox will work together and that Viltrox’s AF lenses will be available for the RF mount. Competition benefits everyone, even if you don’t buy their products.

Viltrox AF 35mm F1.2 LAB FE

The LAB FE lens series is meant to compete directly against Sony’s G series lenses and the 35mm F1.2 is the fastest lens that Viltrox has ever made. It weighs in at 920g and uses a 77mm front filter thread. It’s a beast of a lens, and not something normally you’d associate with a third party lens manufacturer not named Sigma.

It’s a sign of just how far optics development is happening with the smaller lens manufacturers.

Viltrox AF 85mm F1.4 Pro FE

Viltrox has high hopes for this Sony FE lens, promising it will redefine portrait photography. Going up against the Sony G series lenses, it certainly has its work cut out. It again brings some serious heft, being 800g and a 77mm front filter thread.

Viltrox AF 50mm F2.0 Air

The full-frame Viltrox AF 50mm Air is going to be available for the Sony E mount, Nikon Z mount and the Fujifilm X mount (as a cropped lens)

It’s a little odd that they make this available for the X mount, but a mirrorless full frame lens at around 50mm isn’t going to see a significant size difference, so there’s certainly no harm in releasing it for an APS-C camera system.

It’s touted as having the best IQ of the AIR series. Time will tell.

Viltrox AF 25mm F1.7 Air

Viltrox also announced the AF 25mm F1.7 Air, which is already available for the Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mounts. It’s a compact and portable wide-angle prime with an equivalent focal length of around 38mm and a weight of around 170g.

Assuming the QC quality is decent and the MTF matches the real-life lens, it seems to offer very decent performance for an inexpensive lens. The lens can be purchased for around $175 from Viltrox directly.
