After some bigger announcements, we like to remind everyone what we know is coming next. There's not a lot of new information here, but it's good to put it in one place.
Although we haven't been very successful in a while in regards to when things will arrive, we have been pretty good regarding what products are coming.
We do see the silly comments, but we can only report what we're told and vetting that information is never an exact science. So just have some fun with it. There's nothing wrong with being excited about a new car, a new video card or a new camera or whatever else.
Please remember, we don't work for Canon and there are a lot of people that do work for Canon and they're still completely in the dark. We do know some of them will read this site to at least get an idea about what's coming!
Canon EOS R1
We had the development announcement back on May 15, 2024 and expect an official announcement sometime in very late Q3 or early Q4. We have been told multiple times that the EOS R1 will likely not begin shipping until November 2024 at the earliest.
We do expect Canon to start releasing bits of information about the camera's capabilities in the next couple of weeks and throughout the Euro 2024 and Paris Olympic events.
We do wonder how similar the image sensors in the EOS R1 and the Cinema EOS C400 are going to be.
Canon EOS R5 Mark II
The EOS R5 Mark II will be Canon's biggest camera release of the year without a doubt. We are extremely confident that it will be officially announced sometime in July with availability starting in the late August.
Now that the camera has been put in more people's hands, we can't see any further delays happening. The marketing people need time to get things ready and that seems like it's already in motion.
Canon EOS R6 Mark III (Or another moniker)
There is going to be another EOS R camera coming some time in 2024 (again, dates have been hard to nail down), and it will apparently be equipped with a “variation” of the EOS R3 image sensor. The pixel count makes sense for the EOS R6 line, but we think we're going to see something with a few more video capabilities.
Canon Cinema EOS C70 Mark II
As we have mentioned before, we don't get a lot of CInema EOS information ahead of time, but we have been told that the Cinema EOS C70 will get some kind of a replacement this year. It has been a very successful camera for Canon and it's probably due for a refresh. We don't expect a full-frame sensor, but a new DGO Super35 sensor would probably fit the bill quite well.
Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Z
We know that an internal zoom RF 70-200mm f/2.8L is coming, and the last we heard, it would be announced later this month.
We could definitely see this lens being available to select photographers to pair with the EOS R1's that will be out and about over the summer months in Germany and Paris.
Canon RF 24mm f/1.4L VCM & Canon RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM
We expect both of these lenses to be announced some time in Q4. Now that Canon has officially confirmed the existence of a “hybrid family” of L prime lenses, we simply have to wait.
The RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM announcement pushes that forward, and with the lens apparently shipping this month, maybe Canon's just making sure that they can make enough of these lenses to meet demand, and meet it quickly. No one likes waiting months for these sorts of products.
Could there be other VCM lenses planned? It's highly possible, we just haven't heard anything outside of the lenses mentioned here.
We now have STM, VCM and USM focusing motors from Canon going forward. We may see some surprises as to which motors go into which products, so we may get those 3 letters wrong in our rumour reporting as foolishly assume which motor will go into what lens. We now have an L lens with an STM motor with the RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM.
There are other lenses that we have reported on such as the RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM, autofocus Tilt-Shift lenses, and a 15-35mm f/2.8L IS with a Z added to the name, but for the moment, we have absolutely no idea when these lenses could potentially make it to market.

Also waiting for a fast 28mm (f/1.8 would do it).
I cannot imagine the need/reason/etc. for that (as a R6 Mk II user).
But if there is some real big feature bang I could understand that.
I would much more see space for a FF vlogger body without EVF and small size.
Someone (@koenkooi ?) mentioned the idea of a FF M6 II with RF mount. Why not?
A R5 Mk II with new AF features would be really impressing.
I hope that the rumored "cooling features" for the housing will not make it bigger.
As for the lenses:
Great that some "normal" L primes come around and not only those supper dupper big and heavy and super expensive f/1.2 ones.
T+S would be welcome by some as well.
We'll see...
If the R6III gets the R3 sensor and there will be an R8II with that sensor, I'm not sure if I still want an R5II, a faster sensor is starting to become more important than more megapixels for me. An R8II with the R5II sensor, now that would be something to behold (and get frustrated by the SD cards).
About the "faster" sensor:
I haven't found any limitations yet and have no need for a "faster" sensor. IQ and ISO of the R6 MkII sensor seem to be on par or even slightly better compared to the R3.
I cannot imagine that the R6 Mk III would gain much here, do you?
I have the R6ii and I really like it but a stacked sensor would be enough of an improvement for me to upgrade as the rolling shutter is pretty frustrating at times.
24 MP is all I want especially as I have the RF200-800 zoom
I owned the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 Art and I love that lens (it’s one of my favourite prime lenses ever), but I had a chance to get all the money it cost me and took it, so now I don’t own any fast 28mm. I knew how hard it would be to sell a 28mm, so getting 100% of the money back was the perfect opportunity.
I really want to move to RF glass, it’s been over three years using the adapters, I’ve had enough.
Absolutely. Give it at least 2:1 mag ratio and take my money.
Can you provide some source on that?
@Richard. Are you telling us that c400 has quadpixel sensor like R1 (as per your claim earlier) ? From what we know it is only Dual pixel. Does it mean R1 will not have quadpixel sensor?
