Canon EOS M3 in Q3 of 2014?

Canon EOS M3 in Q3 of 2014?

Northlight has posted 2 EOS M cameras potentially coming in Q3 of 2014, which would make it a Photokina camera.

The 2 models will be split into entry level and prosumer. Canon has said they’re committed to the EOS M system and will continue to develop cameras and lenses. Perhaps this will once again be the “relaunch” we were told was going to happen with the EOS M2, which turned out not to be the case.

Shooting in Namibia with the Canon EOS 6D

Shooting in Namibia with the Canon EOS 6D

I am currently on a landscape photography workshop lead by Andy Biggs and Joshua Holko and alongside a lot of very cool people from around the globe. The landscape is absolutely stunning to say the least.

When I came to Namibia, I decided I wouldn’t carry a ton of gear, so I went for a pair of Canon EOS 6D camera bodies, the EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L IS, EF 24-70 f/4L IS and the Zeiss 15 f/2.8 Distagon. So far I’m extremely happy with my selection of gear.

Internet access hasn’t been the quickest, that’s why I haven’t been updating the site as much as usual. I still have a 5 more days on this safari and then I’ll begin the long trek home.

There are a few images from the trip after the break.

Review: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Review: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

A review of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art series lens has appeared on ThePhoblographer.

The lens receives pretty good marks in the review, though a few things such as the lack of weather sealing, size and microcontrast. Though the lens is remarkably sharp and the autofocus works well.

Says ThePhoblographer
Sigma’s 50mm f1.4 Art DG HSM is an exceptional lens. Starting with the design, it very much is in line with the company’s 35mm f1.4 Art optic. The outside feels and looks like something that Hasselblad might make. It feels just so great in your hands that you’d never want to let it go. In fact, if you’re a big fan of the 50mm field of view you might never want to give it up.”

Patent: EF-M 22-46mm f/3.5-5.6

Patent: EF-M 22-46mm f/3.5-5.6

A patent which appears to be for the EF-M mount has appeared. In APS-C, this lens would be a 35-75mm f/3.5-5.6.

Canon has stated that more lenses are coming for EOS M, and that could potentially mean the North American and European markets are still on Canon’s radar for the EOS M system. My bet is we’ll see an EOS M3 to re-introduce the product line to a global market.

Tamron Makes the 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens Official

Tamron Makes the 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens Official

A high-performance, high-power zoom lens that delivers focal lengths extending from an unprecedented 16mm at the wide-angle end up to a long-range telephoto 300mm! Incorporates PZD (Piezo Drive) and Tamron’s exclusive VC (Vibration Compensation) system to further enhance the real-world performance of this next-generation “all-round lens”, which makes taking photographs more convenient and enjoyable.

April 10, 2014, Saitama, Japan – Tamron Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Morio Ono), a leading manufacturer of precision optics, has announced the release of an advanced new all-in-one zoom lens exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors that provides an amazing 18.8x zoom ratio.

Since the launch in 1992 of the 28-200mm (Model 71D) high-power zoom lens – which featured a revolutionary compact, lightweight design – Tamron has been continually expanding its portfolio of world-class optics to benefit consumers.

Tamron previously launched an 18-270mm (Model B008) all-in-one zoom lens exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors that features a 15x zoom ratio, superior image quality, swift, quiet AF, and Tamron’s acclaimed VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, in an ultra-compact package. This ground-breaking lens has been winning plaudits throughout the world.

Responding to consumers’ demand for expanded focal lengths both at the wide-angle end of the zoom range and the telephoto end, Tamron has now developed a completely new all-in-one zoom lens design that provides an impressive focal length range extending from 16mm true wide-angle to 300mm super-telephoto.

The Canon and Nikon mount models will be first simultaneously launched in the Japanese market on April 24, 2014, with overseas launches to follow in mid-May. The launch date of the Sony mount model will be announced at a later date.

Review: Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro

Review: Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro

Bryan over at The-Digital-Picture has posted his review of the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens.

Says Bryan
“Sometimes a lens is remarkable for what doesn’t jump out at you – or get in your way. I have been using this lens intermittently for just under two years. It has reliably delivered excellent images for me. And that is what I expect from a good lens – one that I pick to use because of its attributes, not because I happen to be reviewing it.

I have not kept-secret my love for macro lenses and the fun that can be had with them. Aside from the OS failure issue, this lens ranks right up with some of my other favorites. The Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens is the great-value of long focal length macro lenses.”

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art Gets Reviewed

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art Gets Reviewed

SLRGear has completed their review of the highly anticipated Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art series lens. We’re very happy to read that the lens just may live up to the hype created by Sigma themselves.

Says SLRGear
“The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art is the most exciting lens we’re likely to review this year. All competing lenses from Canon and Nikon fell short when compared to the resolving power of the 50mm Art. We haven’t (yet) tested the very best from Zeiss, but we are confident Sigma will trounce it in one key area: price. This difference is likely to be a yawning chasm. Our expectation for pricing on this lens is for something at least a bit less than Canon’s 50mm f/1.2 L, which goes for $1,700; despite a variety of rumors and no official price for the Sigma yet, we’re expecting it’ll be less than that.”

Pricing for the lens is expected to be announced on or around April 11, 2014.
