1D Mark IIIn [CR2] *UPDATE #2*

January 26th, 2009 Posted in Canon 1D Mark 4

UPDATE #2
The original message board post has been removed. The person that took the picture has requested it be removed from everywhere on the web, including here at Canon Rumors. The image was apparently first posted on Flickr. The person claims to be worried about his/her employment.

Will Canon Rumors remove it? Yes, at 12AM EST January 28, 2009.

UPDATE
I’ve received a few cryptic emails about this posting and have decided to raise the ranking to [CR2].

After looking at the image closer with my laptop, I see the hard white edges are actually there hiding other text. So this information appears to actually be in the computer.

thanks Marty

Is it coming?
This is from a German message board. Apparently the 1D3n has appeared in a stock system.

Upon a 2nd look, it definitely looks fake. The white area around the camera text looks pasted on. I could be wrong, I’m sitting an airport internet kiosk with the worst screen ever.

Hey, it’s CR1. I post everything remotely interesting, especially during this odd slow time.

Thanks for the tip G

No, it’s not the model name that looks pasted, but the area to the left of it. Since I’m german I know that it’s the internal position-nr of the item in the stock-system of the reseller.

Besides the position-nr, also some other information has been pasted/ whiped. E.g. the price for which the reseller is planning to SELL the Mk III (the 4240 EURs that are displayed are the reseller’s purchase price).

I had the 1D2N. A half ass update on the 1D2

Maybe they will upgrade the LCD to a VGA and add liveview with AF.

Definitely Slow. I think the replacement, whatever it is to be called, will come out this year. It would be nice to hear something at PMA. I guess we will see.

I think Everyone is bored. There is nothing on the net about new stuff. Lots of wants, lots of hopes, lots of folks who know everything about everything, but no news.

If you think it is bad now, what if we don’t hear something at PMA and have to wait longer?

If Canon release a 1D Mark 3n , it will probably have only minor improvments which will probably rule out a switch to Full Frame. Im holding out with the hope that Canon brings out the replacment as i want a FF probody without the 1Ds price. If it still has the crop sensor i’ll buy a 5D2.

Gonna wait for the next version mk4 or whatever. A mk3n sounds like a minor upgrade, just like the mk2n.

Did anyone notice the price on the screen? It is 4240 Euros. According to currency converter that that is:

    $5591 USD according to: yahoo.com
    $5598 USD according to: xe.com

While the Nikon D3 lists for $4999.99, or at least before price increases. It’s selling today at Adorama for $4350.

Canon sure isn’t going to undercut Nikon at that rate, IF this is real.

Well it would be nice if camera pricing actually worked that way. Unfortunately for people in Europe it is rarely a straight conversion from US prices to their prices. More often than no they pay a large premium so this price in Euros is probably in line with what you could expect if this thing was real….

If its an updated 1D MK III than its using a 5D 12 mp FF sensor with updated AF. Higher ISO at around 12,800. And the 1D MK X will come out next year.

IF this is real, then it will also have some AF issues ???

I would really like a 1D Mark 4 (or 5 if Canon skips the 4) with 18-25MP, with NO AF issues PLEASE!!, with larger VGA screen (3.5″), Movie mode with FULL MANUAL SETTINGS and adjustable Frame Rate, and AF system in Movie Mode.

CANON: better you check well EVERY aspect of the DSLRs BEFORE releasing them !!!

    That would really be good.

The 1DIIIN doesn’t need to be a major upgrade. A finer LCD, 12-15MP, and an AF that works would be enough. The ‘N’ would distance the units from their predecessor.

Twin CF slots would be nice, but I try not to hope for too much.

Oh, and no video (at least @ only 30fps). Leave that for the 1DIV and I’ll be a happy 1DIIIN camper!

The fella that originally posted the image should have probably thought twice about what he was doing. Risking one’s job for a few minutes of fame in some discussion boards is probably not a good idea. And about taking the image of the web… this is probably even a bit more tricky than the literal “putting the toothpaste back into the packing”.

Euro or US dollars, it doesn’t really matter for americans. As a European buying photographic equipment only from US I can say for certain that the price tag stays the same among those two currencies. If it’s 4.250 euros in Germany, it’ll be 4.250 $ in USA. That’s the way things have been going for the past two years. Due to the financial problems in the States, buying the same equipment at the same price tag is a real bargain for EU members. Especially when 1.5 $ = 1 euro. Nevermind the shipping costs, it still remains a bargain. Practically, it’s a 30% automatic discount.
But Canon is going to lower the price, especially if they wanna beat the D3. Otherwise introducing video on the fastest pro camera is almost useless for the target customers. Since full frame is out of discussion and I hardly believe they can make noticeable speed improvements, a bigger MP count and dead-fast AF appear to be he only viable expectations.
I hope PMA will have something like that on the menu. Otherwise this is really going to be Canons worst year.

Could it not be that the N stands for a ‘language version’? I mean with a certain language in the manual?

I guess that “Gar 12+0″ is for 12 months of warranty, but warranty in Europe is 24 months since 2005

  18. Sebastian Says:

No, its not 24 months – it’s different in most European countries.
In Germany it’s 12 months warranty + 12 months extenden warranty with less consumer rights

I think the name is just a placeholder.. The retailer probably knows that something is coming, but Canon haven’t announced the name, so they’ve put in a place holder until it is announced. Just like the 5D II saw loads of 7Ds, 3Ds, 6Ds, dotted around web stores prior to the announcement.
But, it’s coming. Remember the Swedish photography website interview with Canon in Dec?

Have you guys never worked in any indelivery systems? This could be true. But its not difficult to actually make your own product and call it whatever you like. I can make a EOS MARK IV product myself and photograph my screen but it wouldnt prove anything. So my guess is someone wants to be first to inofficially announce a fake product. You are all going to find out months before the product is actually IN stock anyways. Good hunting!

Yes I have, because people are not paying attention to comments. They just see a screenshot and believe that to be proof. A stock system has the amazing ability to add/delete items YES!! Its true. Im sorry to spoil the fun for 1% of all the people in here who can actually afford a 1ds camera.

And you tell me to get a life? Youre just commenting on peoples comments. haha. Now, for the last time, the item on that screenshot is really someone who just added a new item and blanked out any info that would have to be true for it to actually exist. Come to your senses people, its fake.

You’re probably right, it’s easy enough to fake.

But PMA is in four weeks, and that would be a perfect opportunity for an official Canon announcement on an imminent 1DIIIN/IV (the 1DIII was announced there 2 years ago). May even be a little earlier, if the pre-Photokina announcements of the 50D and 5DII are anything to go by.

So a matter of a month will tell us whether or not this is just another hoaxer with too much time on their hands.
