Canon EOS Rebel T1i?

March 24th, 2009 Posted in Canon 500D

Do we have a name?
I received an email claiming the new name for the Rebel will be the T1i

Some more information
It’s in between 50D and XSi. It has the same size sensor as the 50D, 15MP. It has creative auto mode. Same body as the XSi. It has a video mode. 720p at 30 frames/sec and 1080p and 20 frames/sec.

This is a rumor, not fact……… yet.

Thanks for the tip

This is the real deal. It’s a CR5. It’s one for the books.
Natali Del Conte on CNET told me so.

Natali is hot. Funny that CNET gets the scoop. I bet DPreview has had a test unit for days. We’ll see it all soon. Now about those lenses…

Also, all of these changes in the 450 upgrade makes me believe that Canon is going to have to work even harder to make the 50D successor compelling. More autofocus points (cross-type sensors), better weather sealing, incremental mpxl increase (18mp), obligatory 1080p video, etc. They have their work cut out for them to match the upcoming D400 from Nikon.

This is gonna be freakin’ AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been waiting for this for a while… love the video feature of the MkII but can’t afford a $3000 camera just to play around with…

This is gonna rock. It will bring a lot more “indie photographers” into the realm of SLR, and it’s awesome. It’s not supposed to compete with the features of the higher-up Canons… but it’s gonna have some cool stuff nevertheless. Canon does it again!

Sweet. Looks like CNET jumped the gun and published a video early. It’s down now it seems, but this guy posted a screencap of it on his blog…

Any info on the body size for this 50D/XSi hybrid? I’d love to have extra functionality an all, but not if the camera is as huge/heavy as the 50D.

Going to be the same size as the 450. :( I don’t like the 450, too small for my hands, I need the bigger 40/50d

+1 on too small for equivalent comfort compared to xxD, but grip improvements could go a long way.

All they need to do is widen the grip a bit. I don’t understand how they can go through so many product generations without heeding this criticism.

Last comment then I’ll stop for now. I call bs on Canon creating a new line of cameras between xxxD and xxD. This is the XSi successor plain for all to see in the body form. Canon can call it what they want but they have no need for four entry level dslrs. XS, XSi, T1i, and XTi. XS was a mistake that monopolized XTi sales. It’s even more apparent now that there are these four dslrs that occupy the same market segment. Dumb

The XTi is already discontinued. I imagine they will also discontinue the XS when the T1i is released.

Are either Nikon or Canon working on an autofocus system for their DSLR video modes? I’ve been wait to purchase my DSLR in hopes that one of these companies would develop autofocus for movie mode. First one to do it gets my money.
