Update Shortly?
The 7D shipped with firmware version 1.07. Someone claims to have a camera with firmware version 1.09.

1.09 might just be a language support update.

But it is exciting to me since there might be a proper firmware update file for analysis. This will help with porting of Magic Lantern to the 7D.

Anybody know if the 7D ship with 64bit drivers?

What would that accomplish?

It would make my life easier with Windows 7. Currently the file icons don’t display an image of the picture on either Vista 64 or Windows 7. Lightroom runs in 64bit on Windows, but not on Mac’s.

Check DPR for threads.
There is a third party set that does this perfectly!
Free.
Awesome!
I don’t think Canon will ever get around to their own 64-bit drivers.

Just searched and read a few posts on DPR. They mentioned it was just released and a retailer has to do the upgrade…WTF? I’m sure it’ll be on Canon’s site soon for us to download/upload.

At least one person actually called their dealer, and was told the firmware will be available for download in a few days.
The idea of having your dealer install it is beyond silly. Would you take your 7D MK II to best buy to have it updated? To Dell? To Sears, I think the info was mis-translated. The Dealers were notified of a upcoming firmware update by email.

I tested one out at BB. Does anyone think the mirror/shutter sound is “floppy”? Not bad, just … different. :-o

I think the shutter sound is much better than the 5D MK II, very quick and quiet, pretty much like my 1d MK II was.

I think I may be used to the cheap sounding thrash of low-cost SLRs these days :-)
That this is solid as a freakin rock! How is IQ?

Maybe it addresses the heat warning going on a little too early. I hope… When it first goes on it’s not even hot.

I strongly hope it will resolve the heat issue on 7D…

It seems that the heat issue is most common when using the video function is it not?

It only happens on when shooting video, and it’s not that bad.

The 7D has a tighter sound because on the puny mirror over the puny sensor. ;-)

I have Win 7 64-bit also, there is NO Canon codec that allows viewing of the RAW images in Windows Explorer for 64-bit OS’s. Kind of stinky for Canon to push 64-bit aside, it’s finally making it to the surface, and Win 7 is going to be a big part of that.

Got 7D yesterday. It came with 1.0.9. Also got Rebel XS (ordered from B&H on 12th October) and it came with new firmware (Canon announcaed this firmware on 12th which means most likely they have done it in the store).

Now I have 1.0.9 also, still with the Swedish language.
I updated my camera now today with the firmware from this site: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos7d/firmware.html
And after the update, it was not reset to english, it was still at the Swedish setting. So is the language really in the firmware?
Best Regards.
Patrik
