I have a Vello brand for my 50D, and have been meaning to order one for my 5D for awhile now.

The quality on it is top notch, in my opinion no difference from the Canon branded one.

Really depends on your printing needs, I use a pixma pro 100, which is a great printer for a reasonable price. If you do a lot of B&W get the 10 or 1 series though. I mostly print 4x6 and 5x7 of the kids for family members, so it doesn't really make sense for me to go online and order one 5x7 print.

From the looks of the device there doesn't seem to be any reason it shouldn't cost a more then a 200 for a clone.

I have a CanoScan 9000F Mark II, it can be had new for 200. It's a flatbed with a film holder. It can do both 35 and 120. It's not going to beat a dedicated drum scanner, but for the price I'm very happy with it.

This may not be popular to say but the new SL1 will definitely get my attention once:

1.) the price drops significantly AND
2.) if Canon releases a couple more pancakes (20'ish mm & a 30'ish mm) at a reasonable price. 

Totally with you on that. Aside from professional gigs I love taking my 5DIII and 40mm out to social occasions because it feels like a compact to me.  However, the SL1 with a series of pancakes as you mentioned above would be bliss for such occasions.

Agree, a wide pancake on this could make for a nice street setup. Would be nice to see a EF-S pancake unless they are going to make a really wide EF one.

I have a Mamiya 645 pro that I use sometimes, I don't really care for it to much. I also have a Fuji 6X9 which is awesome to shoot with, the lens is insanely sharp and the negative are huge for awesome amounts of detail.

Even as a lifelong Mac user (Started with a Apple II) I would say go with a custom built PC. My next computer will be. You will get far more bang for your buck, and as of late Macs have been crap. OS 10.8.2 is the buggiest piece of crap and I wish I never installed it. I will miss the unix aspects of OS X though.

My next bigger expense is likely to be a medium format camera and some darkroom gear for my basement. As much as I like my DSLR and wouldn't want to miss it again, for some things I feel those blown up large and medium format portraits still look better. And it's not the hipster-grainy-lo-fi look I'm after but quite the opposite actually.

Craigslist is a great place for dark room equipment, most people are practically giving it away. I got a entire setup with a color enlarger for 50 bucks.

Agree, I don't have huge hands, just a average guy and even with a grip on my 5D I wish I had more to hold onto.

There already is a patent for adding more pins to the EF mount, but it looks like its for video purposes:

An in-lens leaf shutter in a couple of high end lenses would be very nice. At smaller apertures it should be possible to get flash sync at the fastest shutter speed the shutter allows, and at larger apertures it should still be much faster than at 1/250th of a sec - probably around 1/1000th of a sec.

However, leaf shutters do add an additional type of vignetting at faster shutter speeds - when they're operating at their absolute maximum speed, the centre of the frame is open from the start of the exposure right the way through to the end - but go to half way out on the sensor, and 1/4 of the time into the exposure the sensor finally gets light hitting it, and 3/4 of the way through, it closes again - so at that part of the sensor, there's only 50% of the light. At the extreme corners, the aperture only opens momentarily, so close to 0% of the light hits it. Therefore it would be nice if there was an option to select which of the two shutters is used if such a lens is mounted - leaf shutter for flash work, and focal plane shutter for non-flash work.

I would assume that would be easy to correct in post or even in camera.

I have 1 TB in my laptop, that is only about half full, I back everything up to a 3 TB NAS in RAID 1 with Carbon Copy cloner. I also have a 2nd 3 TB NAS in RAID 1 in my detached garage that serves as offsite incase the house burns down. The NAS in my basement replicates itself to the one in the garage twice a week. I thought about adding another layer of backup with Amazon S3, but decided against it due to cost. I figured the two NAS was good.

My real concern is when my laptop fills up, I really don't want to keep something attached to it to use Lightroom, since LR doesn't play well with network volumes.
