EOS-M / Re: EOS-M Optical Viewfinder

Do not think you can turn the LCD off. I use one of those rangefinder/sight people mount on their shot gun( to shoot bird) to get the approximate composite, is only about USD20-40, you can mark the crop on the len if you need to see the crop. I am getting too old, cannot really see the detail on LCD if it is less then 1 foot away anyway.

EOS-M / Re: Share your thoughts - M pricing

I think is best to get a second one or buy it together with the MK2 when it come out in the future. Is typical for Canon's pricing policy that the lens price do not go down significantly

EOS-M / Re: Do memory cards matter?
« on: July 16, 2013, 10:28:06 AM »
Just be careful when you buy the Sd card, please only get the ones with faster write speed, if you are looking for buffer recovery time.
Some of the ones from samsung have very fast read speed but the write speed is just normal. While the more expensive model from sandisk have fast write speed but normal read speed.

As said above shooting speed will not slow down until the buffer is full.

The 8 second waiting time is for the CPU to think while changing the display mode I guess.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Video Noise - Does this look right?

Thanks to all for the input. I replaced the camera for the third time and the image is vastly improved!  It'd turned the camera and made sure I got one with a very different serial number. The difference is unmistakable, even at high ISO and flat picture profile.

There must have been a bad lot coming from the factory. My third 5D is beautiful.

Any chance to see a new screen shot for your new perfect 5D?

I can just get a 48G card full with a bit on the battery indicator to spare, ( PS I turn the lcd to the lowest brightness)

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: BMD 4K, EOS C100 or 5D3

A friend described it as being like an alarm clock.

Had hands on with c300, 11-16 lens is good on it.  No money for anthing esoteric.  L 2.8 zooms I'm afraid.

I tried the C100( many friend have them) is more handy and flexible than the C300. If you are doing video most of the time no need to consider 5D at all, it is a photo camera with manual video function and mono audio. Whereas C100 have flip screen, peek, zebra, S35 etc. good set of connectors. Also seem like the price of C100 is going down.
Since you are using 600D may be you can use 70D, performance is promising. especially if you are using EF-S lens.

As for BM4K I think the post production hardware requirement is a bit tough, BM4k may ok because it uses a relative common codec, I have great problem with the 1DC 4K files

EOS Bodies / Re: EOS 70D a New Benchmark in ISO Performance?
« on: July 07, 2013, 10:20:07 PM »
a 70D doing better than 6D in ISO performance is all possible.
Just like a 6 cylinder car out doing a 8 cylinder car of the same engine capacity because they have new technology applied. but when then new tech is apply to the 8 cylinder engine it will over come again.

So APS-c do better than FF for a while, then FF improve again.

while people are pointing out that "why would he openly wear the strap of an unannounced camera", note that he is wearing the strap "upside down", with the lettering turned in. it is only because it is half twisted in this side on view that we can see it.

i.e the strap is being very deliberately worn in a non-traditional manner.

Perhaps a better question would be "why does anyone use the supplied strap anyway?"

They're awful (uncomfortable and too slippery), they advertise "steal me" to nere-do-wells, and they're difficult to install.

I recommend a nice neoprene strap (I like Optech but there are plenty of other options) and a C-Loop from Custom SLR.

I usually put a black plastic tape on the canon brand name and model name and but a old Nikon strap on it, unluckily the white lens body and the red ring on the len give it away. but the grandmas and aunties think I use Nikon.

EOS Bodies / Re: So I made the jump to FF - now what?

Since you are on a tight budget

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, is cheap and acceptable IQ, lighter and versitile, you can also try 2nd hand one too at about $4-500.  IQ is probably similiar or marginally worse comparing to the 70-200f4L in the 70-200 range.

do not buy 70-200 IS f4 L now, most people end up selling that to buy the F2.8  one instead, is better to save enough money and buy straight off. Also your 24-105 is overlapping half of its range already.

as for the  70-300mm L , sure it is very good but cost twice as much as the non-L also heavier too. may be wait for the next 100-400?

Seems like a good deal

They better have something with dual pixel soon, else not many existing eos-m user will upgrade. optional view finder is not really necessary, just give us a hdmi/usb port that work with the life view  and remote.

EOS Bodies / Re: 70D or 6D
« on: July 07, 2013, 08:08:25 PM »
I think it really depends on how much video that need auto tracking you will be doing. If this is video you do more, then 70D. If it is still then 6D

However you may need to get a bunch of EF new lens instead of the EF-s lens for 6D

EOS Bodies / Re: Beginning of a new Canon starting with 7D Mk II?

I only wish Canon's DSLR live view autofocus perform similar to their camcorders

Currently is near un-usable

EOS Bodies / Re: 6D Autofocus not impressive
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:12:48 PM »
I will say 6D focus performance is as good or similar to 5D2. Is usable, sure you cannot expect canon will give you better performance then its flag ship or model selling at twice the price. Snow AF is not easy for the 1D

It should be as good as the 6D or even better.
This is how DSLR grow. ie newer better ISO performance or more pixels
