EOS Bodies - For Stills / ASP-C Canon body advancement - stuck/abandoned ?

I am very confused - as I see that canon has been re-packaging the 550d for the past few years ? Call it a 60d, call it a 650d, call it a 7d, call it a 700d ? Why are we not seeing a significant jump in asp-c sensors and performance?

All the other companies Nikon and the like - seem to be leaping ahead ?

Did canon get stuck or something ?

Lighting / Request advice for quality home portrait lighting in tight space...

Hi,

I would like to step up my portrait photography - and maybe even have a little home photography business.

I have a limited space (my living room - about 20 square meters) and would like to purchase quality, small, lighting for portraits. The whole setup needs to be totally collapsible, and easy to setup /dismantle - so I can pull it out, do my thing, and put it away. I was thinking of LEDS on stands ? Can anyone guide me here to some kind of kit ?
Any feedback is appreciated.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Moving to FF Canon vs Nikon - I'm Confused...

I have a canon 550d rebel and was considering the "jump" to FF.

The Canon 6d is in my budget. However the Nikon D800 is available (refurb) for $2,300.

I ask myself - why spend almost the same on the inferior 6d ? Why does canon seem to give less and charge more ?

Lenses / Advice needed aps-c long prime

Hi,

I am a rebel user and love indoor soft light style portraits, using window light etc.

I use a 50mm 1.4 + Samyang 85mm 1.4 MF. Both are superb.

I wanted to purchase something longer with AF (using the samyang MF requires a tripod) than can be used for candid head shoulder shots, both indoors and out no flash.

I was looking at:

canon 85mm 1.8
canon 100 2
Canon 100mm macro L IS 2.8
Canon 135mm f/2

Obviously the price range of the first 2 options is opx 1/3 then the second two.

Any of our seasoned users can give me some input ?

With the canon 6d / nikon d600 being in the $2,000 ballpark, can we expect the entire aps-c size sensors to slowly disappear as the whole idea was to make a DSLR cost effective ?

EOS Bodies / Understanding AF on the new 650d

Hi,

I currently have the 550d rebel. I'm happy with it, and the IQ is very nice for the price.
My only gripe is the auto focus. I use the center point only and re-compose.
However, even this method, seems to be both somewhat slow, and not tack on accurate. I find my fast primes (50 1.4, 35 1.4) lacking in AF accuracy and speed.

My question is: Would the 650d give me any advantage here, as far as AF accuracy and speed, using its center point only ? I understand that even on the 550d the center point is extra sensitive ? On the other hand, I seem to see on some websites an explanation showing the center point of the 650d even better (like the 60d) ??

Can one of our tech oriented seasoned members clarify this for me?

Is there ANY real advantage for stills - moving from 550d to 650d (another question) ?

Lenses / Understanding the diffrence between FF and EF-S - Question

Can some of the more tech oriented members, please explain in layman's terms, what the difference is between FF and crop lens mounts, advantages and disadvantages of each type of mount, why crops can take EF and FF cannot take EF-S? Thank you. I have heard/read all kinds of partial descriptions, but still don't have a clear picture.

Lenses / canon T2i + Zeiss 50mm macro planar ZE - Question

Recently I loaned this lens from a friend. I expected to be blown away by the results.

Well....

The pictures are super sharp this is true, however:

- The colors are somewhat dull.
- Portraits are somewhat warm/dark/underexposed
- overall color not accurate and somewhat missing "brightness".

Very Very frustrating. Any ideas from experienced users ?

Lenses / New canon 24 2.8 USM - consumer or Pro ?

I have a 550d and I find myself using primes, 35L, 501.4, 60mm efs, smayang 85mm MF lens.

I'm missing something wider.

I really like quality primes and was saving up for a zeiss 21 2.8 or a canon 24L.

Now the new 24 2.8 USM showed up. My feeling is that it will be another "consumer lens" aimed a video primarily (the IS indicates this) and nothing special as far as IQ compared to the above.

Is it worth waiting for ?

Canon General / Canon G1X for street photos?

This camera seems - at least on paper - as the street photographers dream. A small body / large sensor package.

However it is missing a real optical VF option, a must for quick paced street use. They also have no mention of improved shutter lag - or lack of it. Sort of defeats the purpose ?

Thoughts ?

Canon General / Canon 16-35 vs Tamron 17-50

I use a t2i and currently use the Tammy 17-50 NON VC as my "every day" lens.

The Tammy is quite nice, as far as IQ and colors. However its not superb.

I see that 90% of my shots are in the 17-35 range, and was considering the 16-35L as an upgrade. Its on sale now for the new year.

Can anyone give me feedback on this ? Is there a big jump between these two lenses? I've read conflicting reports on the 16-35 - but the colors and overall IQ seem superior ?
